+Racing Red
I am unable to connect my gps unit to the computer. I have Windows Vista. Brand new computer, brand new gps. Am I missing something? I followed the instructions on downloading, but it says to download something for a Garmin device. I don't have that. I'm confused. Quote Link to comment
+ace862
It sounds like you may be trying the "Send to GPS' button on the cache page. That only works for Garmin units. You will need to either use the LOC waypoint file, with which you can use Magellan's Geocache Manager, or the GPX Waypoint file if you're a premium member. The GPX file can be sent to the 500 with a program like GSAK. Hopefully this helps some. Quote Link to comment
+SgtSue
Did you load the software that came with the GPS? You need (at a minimum) to load the explorist's vista driver. Not sure if it came with your software as it took Magellan awhile to put it out but here is a link to their web page with the driver's download and instructions. After you load the driver you can use the Magellan software or a product such as GSAK. Quote Link to comment

Right above the Additional Frequently Asked Questions portion. Quote Link to comment

+ace862
for some reason, I my computer is unable to find the explorist attached via usb. I am about to give up and return the gps to the store. I am going to keep trying....will keep you posted. Has anyone else had problems connecting via usb? A couple quick things to check. First, make sure the cable is connected correctly and runs downward on your GPS. The other question is regarding your USB ports. Are you using an actual USB port or are you running off a USB hub. I had that problem when I first used my 500. I tried connecting it to a USB hub on my keyboard and it didn't work. As soon as I connected it to an actual USB port I didn't have any problems. Those are the ideas that come to mind right away. Let us know how it works out. Cheers! Quote Link to comment
