+bettsbugs
Bogus logs bother me in the fact that I feel I have 'earned' my 500+ finds and they really haven't. That being said, I don't understand why someone would log a bogus find... Just to brag to other cachers (the only ones who might really care and would know that they were bogus anyways) that they had 'so many' finds? Quote Link to comment

Just to brag to other cachers (the only ones who might really care and would know that they were bogus anyways) that they had 'so many' finds? Wow! You have NEVER filed a bogus log entry on a cache? I have personally filed several bogus DNF logs, each one very humorous, and each one on caches that were no longer in place, that is, they had long ago gone missing in action but had not yet been archived because they were located in remote regions where there are few caches. +briansnat
I agree with your interpretation. Based on my puny and limited experience I am thoroughly convinced that it is pure, innocent, bumbling cluelessness, NOT rebellious anarchy, which accounts for virtually every bogus log out there. I would think the person would get a clue the first time the cache owner deleted the log. If not by the first time, then maybe by the third. As far as your idea that most of these bogus logs stem from clueslessness, I'd buy it if it was a novice, but when you see people with hundreds, and thousands of finds doing it, I find it hard to believe that it's bumbling. You've logged fake DNFs??? That's bogus. I've earned every one of my DNFs and now knowing that you've faked some makes it harder to compare myself to you. My DNFs are worth way more (zero) than your fake DNFs (also worth zero). Quote Link to comment

I LIKE being evil, and I LIKE it that my fake logs are the Sign of the Beginning of End Times! So there! In fact, if I put my ear to the ground and listen closely, I think that I can hear the thunderous hoofbeats of the steeds ridden by the Six Horsepersons of the Apoclyapse, and if I listen REAL closely, I can hear them shouting: "Thank you Vinny! Thank you for logging fake DNFs and thereby triggering the Beginning of End Days!" . Edited August 25, 2008 by Vinny & Sue Team Quote Link to comment
+Sioneva
Oh, that's nothing. I log fake notes on Vinnie's caches all the time. It drives him crazy, trying to distinguish which is a real note, and which isn't! Quote Link to comment

That being said, I don't understand why someone would log a bogus find... Just to brag to other cachers (the only ones who might really care and would know that they were bogus anyways) that they had 'so many' finds? People may log fake logs for several reasons other than just trying to inflate their numbers. Found the cache but didn't sign the log for what they felt was a good reason (e.g. wet log, no pen, etc.) Selected the wrong log type by mistake Didn't find the cache after looking but found the remains or some other strong indication that the cache wasn't there and felt like they deserved a find anyhow Initially logged a DNF but changed to a find when the cache owner said it was OK Armchair logged a virtual because the cache owner says it was OK or just because they believe that this is an acceptable practice (whether or not it really is) Discovered that this is a silly game based on the honor system and wants to see who is going to freak out if they see a fake log If you are so proud that you have impeccable logging practices then you can alway add a note to your profile. I don't see any reason to compare my count with anyone else since there is no way to tell if they "earned" their count any more than I earned mine. Quote Link to comment
