SSSnowbird
Hi, I'm relatively new to the sport and I like to search for my caches based on the google map function of the website. I was just wondering if someone would be able to tell me what the various icons on the map mean? Thanks so much. -sssnowbird Quote Link to comment
+Team Birdaholic
When looking at the google map closely against known cache's I think the co-ord's are a little out. Up to 200ft so be careful just using the google map to find caches. Quote Link to comment
SSSnowbird
What do you mean the "co-ords are a little out"? Also, what do the different icons mean? Is there a key for the map? Quote Link to comment
Buck31
If you roll your mouse arrow over the icons on the right of the map they will tell you what they are. Quote Link to comment
stryder717
the green boxes are traditional caches the 2 yellow/orange boxes are multi stage caches, the question mark is unknown caches. Quote Link to comment
+shell1fish
Here's a link to a page describing the different kinds of Cache Types and what the icons mean: Geocache Types. Welcome to the game! Quote Link to comment
SSSnowbird
Thanks so much! What was that other guy trying to say about not trusting google maps to find caches? Quote Link to comment
+NoHandsGPS
Some people use google maps or earth to search for caches instead of a GPS. You can enter coords and google will show you where the cache is located (accuracy is questionable.) Quote Link to comment
SSSnowbird
Gotcha! All I meant was I was using the embedded google map feature in the website to see where caches around me were. Quote Link to comment
