First GPS unit

I am a 12 year old who is new to geocaching and I am looking for a recommendation on what might be a good first GPS unit to buy. Thank you for any assistance.

Garmin Etrex H. You can get them new for around $70-80.

Just saw THIS (<-- link) in the GPS garage sale forum. Better hurry if you want it though... Seems that GPSr's go really fast over there.

i second the Garmin Etrex H it is an excellent GPS for beginners. this is the one i use.

Can I ask how would you compare the etrex H and the garmin geko?

I'm in the UK, not sure if that makes a difference (except that they are twice the price!!)

If you look on ebay you can get a pretty awesome deal. I just got a Garmin Etrex with next day signed for postage (it came yesterday) and it's a great unit, only cost £40 inc. postage. The same unit is £110 at my local outdoors store!!!!

 

You just have to look around and wait for the right deal to come up, and be fast at bidding in the last 14 seconds like I did lol!

The Geko is a fine basic unit that is really easy to use. The big difference is that the eTrex H has a high sensitivity receive and the Geko doesn't. If you are geocaching a lot under heavy tree cover then the eTrex H has a big advantage. If you aren't, then no reason not to get the Geko.

A couple months ago I purchased an HCX refurbished for $110 on ebay. Great unit and I love having color. I started with an eTrex Legend.
