+DJ.J.ROCK
Not sure if anone else noticed this yesterday and this morning, but seems people in high places here in the USA are getting the idea that cell phones and driving are UNSAFE!! Even the hands-free phones! The reason...can anyone guess?? Why do you suppose talking on the phone is worse than eating, using the radio or chatting with someone else in the car? It's simple and pretty obvious to me. When on the phone, you are engaged in conversation and your concentration is ON THE CONVERSATION! Ever notice someone on the phone suddenly slow down without reason? Ever see someone on the phone miss a stop sign or signal? That's because they are DISTRACTED! Now, some will say talking to another in the car is the same...NOPE! While you are somewhat distracted by this, the other person is also there with you, can see what is going on and KNOWS the conditions of the road, the traffic etc. The other person can be stopped from talking with a quick motion in case of emergency, the other person can also warn of dangers which might be looming! Some will say eating is as bad...NOPE! While it is distracting and should be done carefully if not avoided altogether, you don't have to concentrate on hitting your mouth like you do when thinking of your conversation! How about that radio?? Changing the channels, singing to the songs...as bad?? NOPE! Another distraction, but not nearly as bad as using the phone! TPTB are trying to make a nationwide ban on phone usage (even hands-free) while driving...I AM ALL FOR IT! I DONT TALK ON THE PHONE WHILE DRIVING!! PERIOD!! ITS BEEN MY RULE SCENCE I STARTED TO DRIVE ,, I SIMPLY HAND THE PHONE TO THE PASSANGER,, OR CALL THE PERSON BACK WHEN I GET OUT! THE PEPOLE THAT DRIVE AROUND ME ON THE PHONE MAKE ME NERVIOUS AND OFTEN I FIND MYSELF SPEEDING UP TO PASS THEM SO IM NOT IN DANGER OF THEIR UNPREDICTABLE BEHAVIOR. Quote Link to comment

+WRITE SHOP ROBERT
To help you see bikes, try counting them. 17 California 59 F I do not know if you have similar things with here.... but you saw the memorial of Motogrrl at the exact place where her life ended! By memorial I mean a small stacture like a tiny church with her photo maybe... I've heard you mention those, and keep meaning to tell you what we have here. Mostly there will be just a Cross at the site, maybe surrounded by the things that might be inside one of the little churches(flowers, notes, personal items) I have seen very few of the little churches here. In some states where there are many Native Americans(Indians) there will be a sign with a symbol that represents a TeePee. The sadest are the places with many together(I've seen several places with 5, 6, or even 7 all together, I HATE Minivans) Quote Link to comment

Sadly, that is the correct one. I drove by, and later drove through the interchange where the accident happened. I never like driving through there anymore. Quote Link to comment

+WRITE SHOP ROBERT
I am terribly sorry. I hadn't realizes that anyone would phrase it that way, and as soon as I saw that repeated so many times, it was a shock to me as well. Yes, I drove by the place of Leigh Ann's accident, and was thinking of her the rest of the day. Now that we know that answer, we can stop repeating it. I am very sorry for the way that turned out. If anyone looks through the list of wrong answers for the Bike Count, and Temperature, you will greatly narrow the remaining possible guesses. Quote Link to comment

The sadest are the places with many together(I've seen several places with 5, 6, or even 7 all together, I HATE Minivans) Back in the early '90s, I was basically a big brother (figuratively) for my boss' son (my boss at that time...well, co-boss...was an alcoholic and pretty much abandoned his teen son), Marcus was the young man's name. Marcus and I were good friends even with the few years age difference, he was a smart kid and loved a lot of the things I did (water skiing, snow boarding, we dated sisters, went to a LOT of concerts etc). I didn't have a place to live, so I was given lodging at my boss's house, so I quickly befriended the poor kid! I guess I did a good job of mentoring this kid because he turned out to be a great man, a caring father and NOT a drunk like his dad (who is still to this day a drunk even though he has no liver etc), but he had a passion for motorcycles since his dad and my other boss were the president and vice president of a motorcycle club!! Jump to 2001, Marcus was on his way home when he met up with an old couple. The old man driving had missed seeing Marcus and pulled right across the road into his path, Marcus T-boned them and flew from his bike...Marcus was killed that day. In his memory, we erected a cross and planted flowers and such!! I hate that intersection!! I don't like the damned cross there, I hate even going by! It is right in Adrian (a major city in our county) and was an intersection I went through often, so I saw the cross often...but I never let on to the sister (whom I also mentored I suppose). Even now, the cross is well maintained and always has some fresh flowers (or fake ones in the winter), and I always try my best to avoid the intersection but sometimes can't. I can still hear the phone ring, the voice of my friend and boss (still my friend...Dan) telling me Marcus was in an accident and in critical condition. I can still remember the long and hurried drive to the hospital only to find I was too late. I can still remember carrying Marcus to his grave! You know, of all the memories lost due to a mountain bike accident, I often wonder why I was left with this one! I had a dream the other night, one which awoke me with a rush, one which left me in tears. It was a mixed dream of differing memories, memories of Tod and of Marcus! Sleep has been hard for me since Tod's death, but for some reason, even harder lately. Long nights coupled with haunting dreams and then sleepless mornings of wonder....wonder why, wonder what if etc. I had told myself back then that I'd never get a motorcycle, if I hadn't, Tod would still be here today! Yes, we have those markers, yes they are everywhere. Will one be placed where Tod fell?? Not if I have anything to do with it! eta: People have told me it's irrational to blame myself for Tod's death. It might very well be, to them. They don't have to face the fact that I was the reason Tod was even on the bike. They don't have to live with the thought that I could have stopped him from riding until he'd buy a real helmet...it was my bike he was on! There's a lot of things I wish I;d have done differently, what if.... Edited January 14, 2009 by Rockin Roddy Quote Link to comment
