+Team CeDo Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 To help you see bikes, try counting them!!! saw 8 bikes total today California 64 woman rider Just wanted to say thanks for putting out such a cool way to raise bike awareness, came home from work today in Ocala, FL really thinking about riding, had a patient come into the office today who just bought another bike and was driving it home from the dealership on friday, and a lady was NOT paying attention (imagine that) ran through a median from his left side - he was boxed in traffic and had no choice but to lock up the breaks and hit her head on, broke both great toes and multiple bones in his foot, broke his handlebars off the bike with his legs-massively bruised up- thank God he was wearing a helmet, all he can remember was hitting her and waking up after he was on the ground. This man is very very lucky to be alive!! Just goes to show, ya' never know what is going to happen on the roads... Quote

I went out to do something and since I was in the center and we have many bikes here, I saw 134 bikes and 1 bicycle! +Rockin Roddy Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 (edited) Not sure if anone else noticed this yesterday and this morning, but seems people in high places here in the USA are getting the idea that cell phones and driving are UNSAFE!! Even the hands-free phones! The reason...can anyone guess?? Why do you suppose talking on the phone is worse than eating, using the radio or chatting with someone else in the car? It's simple and pretty obvious to me. When on the phone, you are engaged in conversation and your concentration is ON THE CONVERSATION! Ever notice someone on the phone suddenly slow down without reason? Ever see someone on the phone miss a stop sign or signal? That's because they are DISTRACTED! Now, some will say talking to another in the car is the same...NOPE! While you are somewhat distracted by this, the other person is also there with you, can see what is going on and KNOWS the conditions of the road, the traffic etc. The other person can be stopped from talking with a quick motion in case of emergency, the other person can also warn of dangers which might be looming! Some will say eating is as bad...NOPE! While it is distracting and should be done carefully if not avoided altogether, you don't have to concentrate on hitting your mouth like you do when thinking of your conversation! How about that radio?? Changing the channels, singing to the songs...as bad?? NOPE! Another distraction, but not nearly as bad as using the phone! TPTB are trying to make a nationwide ban on phone usage (even hands-free) while driving...I AM ALL FOR IT! Edited January 13, 2009 by Rockin Roddy Quote

I have, myself, run through a stop light because I was on the phone (hands free too). Glad it was 5am and no cars around. The car behind me pulled in behind me at the local gas station and told me. I felt like an idiot. Since then I do not talk on the phone. If I have to, I will pull over if I can. Texting is even worse. I will not text while driving but I have seen others and it is down right scary. Too busy looking down to see what key to push next. That can be worse than talking. +WRITE SHOP ROBERT Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Since we have established that the State is California I'm going to tell you the Cities I visited, it may help you figure out the final question. "What did I do or see today that started me thinking about Leigh Ann(Motogrrl)". I started my day in Ripon, and had three deliveries in Tracy, Concord, and Vallejo. Then I drove the truck back to our terminal in Lathrop. This one cannot be answered by guessing, you will need to do some painful reading to figure out the answer. Quote
