Uh oh, I hope she didn't have a flat tire!

 

Look twice, save a life!

Speaking of Looking Twice...She had TWO FLAT TIRES. Many times when there is a bad Blowout on one tire, the closest one to it will get damaged so that it too will soon blowout. The damage can come from the violence of the first explosion, or can be caused by debris or other parts damaged by the first. another way is just by the first blown tire starting to rub the other and causing friction, and then overheating(and expansion) of the good one. This poor driver had one Blowout, and while limping to a safe parking spot, the tire next to that one blew out too(there are 18 tires on the truck). These two were the very rear, on the passenger side. She had been waiting 2 hours for the repair truck by the time I arrived. Before I left, the repair man was almost done!

Several years ago I was driving down the highway on the left of a semi about the middle of the trailer when he had a blowout. The noise was VERY loud and about scared me half to death. :) I swear it felt like something had landed on the roof. I pulled over too and he told me nothing had hit my car in a not so nice tone and after checking out my car and my heart rate slowing down I drove off. I realize now that he wasn't mad at me but at the tire. I know from my recent flat tire that it really doesn't make your day.

Many paople will try to get money for marks on their car when the rubber hits them. He might have been worried about that. I had the same thing happen to me years ago in a rental car, but a piece about 3 feet long landed right on the hood. I thought it was going to break the window. I had paid for their insurance, and was on a tight schedule to catch my flight, so I didn't even stop.

Oh yah, I've seen those tires shred before! Doesn't look fun at all. :D Glad she got it fixed, but waiting 2 hours in the desert does NOT sound fun.

 

Do they not have pressure gauges on truck tires now? It seems like it would be helpful to know when one of your tires is GOING flat, as opposed to having them shred out. Maybe that's a very naive thing to ask. :o

Check your blind spots! They're called blind spots for a reason. :o

They do have those available, that will tell you the pressure as you drive. In fact, I think there is a new law coming into effect that will make Tire Pressure warning systems mandatory in new cars. Most Trucks, and especially Trailers do not yet have these. As Truckers we(are supposed to) stop every 150 miles/3 hours and inspect the truck/trailer including tires. For HazMat loads, it's 100 miles/two hours. Even with these inspections, things can happen to the tores. They have 90 to 110 pounds of pressure in them(your car tires might have 35-40). When they blow, it is a big explosion.

You rented a Toyorta Camry

 

Whenever you get a new vehicle(or are driving one for the first time, like a rental/borrowed) make sure you inspect things like the tires and test things like the brakes.

 

Not the easiest thing to do if you have the family along with you, but whenever I get a rental, I always give it a good test run to see things like how it handles and brakes. This will help you drive it more safely, and be prepared if you get into an emergency situation. Remember, it will not drive, feel, and react the same as your regular car so get to know the limits and abilities. Does it pull right or left in hard braking? How easily does it break traction, handle a corner etc.?

WOW, glad to see we're back up and running! Had a fun time last night at our event, we had a small but great group come out to find the night cache and eat some hot dogs and chips....GREAT!!!

 

Seekerfamily has a cointest running, THANKS!!! Get those answers in and win a coin people!!

 

Going to watch the fireworks tonight, but have plans to visit with my family and maybe even take a nice long motorcycle tour.....have fun everyone and STAY ALERT!! You never can tell when dangers will pop up!!

WOW!!! I finnaly managed to enter geocaching.com!!! Yesterday it was impossible! this morning was impossible too...till now!!! what happent???

 

I started sending emails to other geocachers to see if they could enter!!! Oh boy!!!!

 

Rod, I just saw your post! It is strange that the coin didn't came! I am afraid that the letter was lost! :D
