While in Monroe, we found ourselves right by the virtual Navarre Trading Post. Tod and I had enjoyed reading about this and walking around the buildings, but KAboom had never been here before. Since we were here, I told KAboom we should look around!

 

The trading post is a short walk from the parking, but there's plenty of good and interesting info all about to slow one down and get you to look about! When we approached the trading post, we were able to identify several bullet holes and such from the wars this post had endured, being the only building to have survived the ordeal! KAboom got a kick out of trying to find different sized (caliber) shots from BB sized to 60 cal!

 

We'd have done the nearby earthcache, but didn't bring the camera with us, we'll be back!!

We did find 15 caches and we had 2 DNFs, I don't think either cache was in place by the looks of the logs adn the search we put in! At one of the caches, we went to a house to grab a cache and heard a familiar voice yelling we'd better stop up and say HI! It turned out to be PapaDe and his son, his wife didn't come out! We chatted for awhile before KAboom and I were off after some more caches!

 

Halfway through the entire day, we rean into the Navarre trading Post virtual which Tod and I enjoyed previously and KAboom enjoyed this trip! Learning is fun when you don't realize you're learning...KAboom had fun! We even found some caches we couldn't before, I always blame Tod on the DNFs...or used to

 

At the last cache, KAboom was given a bit of wrong direction while I quickly made the find and tied the day's competition up, KAboom was pretty irked by it all (in jest of course) and pushed and beat on me until we approached the cemetery gate, where he then closed the gate and locked me in! Poor kid, I guess I could have given him one win....or not!

 

We had a great time through it!!

 

CONGRATS Maine Family, well done! I didn't think these questions would take this long to answer, but we just didn't have as many people guessing as usual! Their loss, but I'm sure we'll do more soon!! Coin info coming soon, my friend!

Some useful information about motorcycle awareness:

Motorcycles can often be "hiding in plain sight" on the road. Your view of a motorcycle can be blocked by other vehicles, the sun, glare, or other obstructions. Please double check to make sure no bike is there before pulling out into an intersection. In almost half of the accidents involving a motorcycle and another vehicle, the view of the motorcycle was limited by glare or obstructed by other vehicles.

 

The number one situation that causes motorcycle accidents and fatalities is a when a car and a motorcycle are traveling in opposite directions on a road and the car turns left at an intersection directly into the path of the oncoming motorcycle. When motorcycles are involved in fatal crashes with another type of vehicle, in 40 percent of the cases, the other vehicle was turning left while the motorcycle was going straight. This can happen easily on a four-lane road. The car driver may see a car or truck approaching and not be able to see the motorcycle following behind it in the other lane. The car driver waits for the car or truck to pass, then pulls out, turning left across the road, not realizing there is a motorcycle approaching as well. In this situation, the motorcycle rider typically has just two seconds to react and swerve to avoid hitting the car. Many motorcycle riders are injured or killed either by being unable to avoid the collision and crashing into the car, or by losing control while trying to avoid the collision and crashing into other objects.

 

So please, please, please be extra careful while driving and think about the possibility that a motorcycle could be hiding in a blind spot that you can't see. Make sure intersections are empty before pulling out into them. You don't want to find yourself stopped in an intersection looking down at the body of a dead motorcyclist under your car. Please take a moment to look twice for bikes. You could save someone's life.

Congrats Maine Family. One of your Munster Bikes started cycling in the Netherlands today.

I had to put five coins in one ammo can today. The clickstick of my GPS broke of and my camara is broken. I managed to post some pictures at my logs. Six coins to go, but first I have got to get me some gear.

On the Dutch forum there is a topic about how car navigators, can give problems. For instance in januari there was a man who drove of the road because his navigator told him to go right. It was night and he didn't watch, so he drove and landed on the ice and went through. Luckely for him he just got a wet suit.

But it makes you think how people work with navigators. Apperently they watch the screen instead of the road. There are more story's like that. Another distraction and not watching the other travic participants.

 

So: The navigator will tell you where to go; You have to watch the road and drive save!!!!

That's just crazy...we need to watch the roads and rely less on electronics to keep us on track! I understand how this can happen though, we made a turn the other day which wasn't called for. The PN-40 will give a double beep about a half mile or so from the turn, then a single beep just before the turn. BUT, sometimes the roads are a bit screwy on the PN-40, it will often tell us we need to turn onto the road we're already on (roads have several names, when the name changes, the PN-40 doesn't understand it's still the road we're on). This happened the other day, I was chatting away with KAboom and had glanced a few times at the PN-40 which said no turn for a little ways (as seen by the red road highlight)...I didn't even pay attention to the first beeps, but the single beep caught my attention and I turned into a parking lot quickly to see what was up. Of course, the highlighted road was correct, I merely needed to stay on the same road...D'OH!

 

I guess the moral to all this is USE YOUR HEAD, RELY LESS ON TECH!

Hello to all! I just came back home! Today is our "clean Monday"!

 

We do not eat any meat, milk, cheese... since it is the forst day of the sarakosti (40 days for Easter), in Greece!

 

We go out, in fields, we eat, we fly kites.... it is nice!!!

 

As I saw, I missed some things, but Sivota is making an other cointest!! WOW!!!

 

Let's see.....

 

Do not drive and have your radio, cd- player etc, very loud! Except that you will be distracted... you can not hear what is happening around you! you can not hear any horn's (from bikes or other cars), and this is dangerous!

 

Except all that.... just respect the people who are living close to the road!!!! And if there is a hospital there.... do not have your radio loud!!!!

Before you enter in your car to drive, check your lights and your flash lights if they are ok!

 

If it is night a rider will not be able to see if a car is coming (if one lights for example, is off), until it is too late!

 

If you want to turn and your flash light is off or broken, the biker (and everyone else!), will not understand what you really want to do!!!
