1. Who developed the first motorcycle helmet to absorb shock ? The first motorcycle helmet was invented by Prof. Charles F. Lombard who developed a unique energy absorbing helmet for the United States Air Force. So, the first motorcycle helmet was not designed as a motorcycle helmet but it was rather designed for aviation. Dr. Lombard patented his unique invention which was applied not only to aviation but also automobile racing, motorcycles, hockey, etc…

2. What did he do in 1953 ? In 1953, Mr. Lombard applied for a patent for his helmet.

3.The inner layer of padding absorbed shock. What did the outer layer do ? Along with the layer of comfort padding in a helmet, this helmet also had another outer layer of padding that not only absorbed, but spread out the energy created by impact.

4.What's a Rubie ? Rich Urban Biker. A term usually used by real Harley Bikers to describe the weekend wannabe accountant types who buy a Harley ''cause they can and the status of it, but couldn't tell a camshaft from a brake pad. Bikers that ride with more money than knowledge, experience, and ""street saavy"".

5 What 2 things does every safe helmet have ? Helmets that meet FMVSS 218 must have a sticker on the outside back of the helmet with the letters DOT, placed there certifying that the helmet meets or exceeds FMVSS 218. In addition to the DOT sticker, a label located inside the helmet showing that a helmet meets the standards of a private organization like Snell is a good indicator that the helmet meets the federal safety standard.

6. What was introduced in 1966 ? In 1966, the American National Safety Standard for Motorcycle Helmets was introduced, requiring performance standards for helmets that manufacturers were obligated to meet. The following year, the U.S. federal government introduced the Highway Safety Act of 1966 that required states to have mandatory helmet laws if they wanted to receive federal funds for highway maintenance and construction. This plan had its desired effect – by 1975, 47 states had complied.

7. Which country sets the best example of Motorcycle Safety ? Canada

8. When was the first Facial Helmet introduced ? In 1967, the first full facial helmet was introduced, providing improved vision.

9. What is the one and only injury I got, while riding a motorcycle ? Burned leg on muffler

10. What was KD1EJ's first motorcycle ? Year, Make and model? 1973 kawasaki 500

3.The inner layer of padding absorbed shock. What did the outer layer do ? it has to do with the shell spreading the load so that the liner can absorb the energy.

4.What's a Rubie ? Another sector of motorcyclists is increasing in number – what’s known as “Rubies” (rich urban bikers). This category of riders also has an increasing number of motorcycle fatalities. As people get older, they feel a stronger need for freedom, which includes the freedom to ride their motorcycles without a helmet. Again, the results speak for themselves – no helmets, more deaths.

GOOD MORNING ALL!! It's cold out, but the sun is shining, the snow is nearly melted again and I think KAboom and I are planning on going to Hayes today to place some caches for LHD III!! I would like to share a bit about our hides in Hayes....

Hayes is a nice sized park, but there's swamps all over the place! Well, KAboom and I have been seriously busy planning a 4/4 multi which will take you to the heart of Hayes, and through some of the swamps as well lolol!! This multi should make even the brave cringe just a bit, we're not making this one easy (anyone who's hunted any of our hides will tell you, we're usually old softies and hide only P&G caches...right????). You WILL get wet, you WILL get scratched and poked and dirty and tired and....maybe you'll even have fun? We're crazy like that though!! Robert, bring some boots!!

BUT...to round it off a bit, we are hiding a few P&Gs lol No, truly!! Some actual P&Gs and not TR&Tw/K style either! I have to admit something to everyone, Tod was the motivator to a lot of our "sinister" hides, he was the one who'd push to make every cache difficult...KAboon and I are really sweethearts!! ;)

GREAT COINTEST last night and CONGRATS TC, that was a fun one for sure!! And, we all learned a bit about the helmet too, GREAT DEAL!!

I saw some questions this morning which I think will be asked in the near future, these questions will be fun as well, can't wait to see this cointest go too!!

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly cointest

Up you guessed it, its for that coin

To quote Opalsns:

Ok Folks,

You know the rules of play on this thread ....

Answer all questions in one post.

No back to back until 15 mins.

No editing

Safety Slogan

And NO Copying and Pasting of someone else’s post!!!!!! I hate that!!

One more Thing If your geocaching name is in a question you do not answer that question. Answer the extra question instead. If your geocaching name is not in a question you do not need to answer the extra question, unless you just have to.

1. What year was Rockin Roddy born?

2. I went to look at a cache that Gatoulis found my computer or Internet locked up Why?

3. How cold does it have to be for CeDo to think that it is insane?

4. Oplasns, has another brother what did he used to do?

5. WriteShopRobert Has Over 880 Finds I Have Over 500 How many do we have in common and the name(s) of them?

6. What is Sovita’s Favorite story?

7. Ufgatorgirl retrieved a coin that has traveled in 4 states and most of Europe Not counting Spain and the UK, what is its reference number?

8. LadyB4T attended an event. One of the activities was a scavenger hunt; one of the items to find was a picture of wild life, what did she want to submit a photo of and what did she actually submit?

.

9. What kind of candy does surteb like to leave in people’s mailbox at Halloween?

10. catsnfish and I although we live in neighboring states and my daughter Lives due south of where they live and I cache up there, we have only found one cache in common and not even close to where either of us live. What is the name of the cache?

11. Extra question for anyone whose geocaching name has been used above.

My wife and I were moving to Seattle in 1980, How long did it take to drive from Pasco Washington to Vantage Washington and Why?
