+jeffbouldin Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 On my 210 a few times I would get a screen that would let me start Burn In. What is this and when do you need to do it? Jeff Quote
+user13371 Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 What is this and when do you need to do it?This is a factory testing mode that you should never have to use. It's normally triggered by a pressing a special key sequence, I think it was holding ESCape and Power at the same time. In your case I'm guessing you have/had some stuck keys on your keypad that brought it up by mistake. Quote

+user13371 Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 (edited) What happens if you start it? Smoke pours out from under the keypad, color of the smoke indicating the condition of the unit. You probably guessed -- I don't really know. An educated guess though, is that it cycles internally through a lot of different operating modes. When we used to "burn in" custom built computers, we'd run software that would exercise all of the different parts; hard drives, video, memory and CPU activity would all be pushed to the max for an extended period to make sure nothing would fail. Not sure what the GPS equivalent of that would be though... See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burn-in Edited August 14, 2008 by lee_rimar Quote
+jeffbouldin Posted August 14, 2008 Author Posted August 14, 2008 Being someone who installs access control, CCTV, etc. I know first hand that you do not want to let the magic smoke out. The magic smoke is what makes electronics work and if you let it out the device quits working. Quote
