Garmin WP description size

Last week I send Garmin support an email requesting an enhancement to the Vista HCX to increase the size of the description field for Geocaching WP as its woefully small.

There response was hopeful

I will pass your request on to the developers and perhaps they will be

able to implement this in a future release of the unit software.

So I'm thinking if other people request the same feature perhaps this would give it more of a chance to be included in a future firmware upgrade.

 

The sort of data I want to store in description is Full name, Hint, Cache Description etc.. nothing to unusual I think.

 

So if you think this is a good idea please feel free to logon to Garmin support and request an enhancement as this might add weight to this request

The units have a fixed and limited internal memory so changing things like waypoints may not be possible.

 

Your better off asking for them to change the custom POI limits. For instance a Colorado allows 1023 characters in the name and 19000 in the description fields. There is no reason the older units could not have that as well.

so I wonder if they can update geocaching mode to work with custom POIs?

As a joke I asked for them to add a holographic heads up display to the colorado and got the same response. Its funny that did not even read my request.

I emailed Garmin and the first reply indicated that the memory is fixed and can't be changed, but I asked if they could some how link to a file on the external memory to retrieve more data or just display that data in the description screen.

If you want that functionality, buy a Colorado or Oregon. While I would like it, too, it's highly unlikely that Garmin would cannibalize sales of their new units by adding their key features to older, cheaper units. It's a marketing/sales issue, not an engineering issue.
