Which map product are you asking about?

 

Some version of Topo? City Navigator? City Navigator NT? City Select? MetroGuide? Something Else?

Look at the bottom of the "Maps" tab in Mapsource. It will give you a running total of space required at you select the various maps segments.

if your attempting to install City Navigator NT, you can install the entire thing on a 2GB memory card.

I know I have the space on a 2GB chip. I want to load at least a state of City Navigator in one shot. When I try to load more than about 1/5 of California I get a failure error. Can I copy it directly to the chip without going through city Navigator?

That definitely won't work. Try reformatting the card in the unit.

I went a step farther and got a new card

I don’t know what would cause the problem, but I remembered seeing something similar a while back. Here it is, with a solution that worked in that case. Hope it works for you.
