OpinioNate
Today's release represents a significant update to Geocaching.com. Although there have been numerous bug fixes, the primary focus has been to improve the process for creating and renewing Premium Memberships. We are now offering 4 different ways of purchasing a Premium Membership, with both PayPal and credit cards being accepted. PayPal no longer requires a subscription ID and both methods are instant. Any active PayPal (renewing) subscriptions will remain valid unless, or until, it is canceled for whatever reason. If a region is chosen it will also select the default region. Trackable activation wizard will now default to today's date Added asterisk to Mega-Event caches in profile geocache tab Removed redundant text from cache creation page Fixed rating functionality for bookmark lists to properly display or hide based on ratings Removed broken link to "country map" from UK cache pages Added CITO logos to logousage.aspx Fixed issue where some usernames starting with a number or symbol were not accepted Fixed issue with URLs not displaying properly in cache logs Remove geocoin text from trackable FAQ (they have their own FAQ) Fixed issue on /track where hitting the enter key does not submit search Fixed issues with Green Jeep Travel Bug pages where the CSS displayed incorrectly. As usual, please reply in this thread with any problems that come up as a result of this release. If you need clarification on any of these, just ask. We still have plenty to keep us busy, so if your favorite bug didn't make it into this release, fear not. We will get to it as soon as possible. Link to comment

+scottpa100
New hardware too or tighter coding? I'd swear the viewing of previous caches that I've done is working lots faster. If so - well done! I like the new look too. Link to comment
+SUp3rFM & Cruella
*phew* Huge list! So far, the new webdesign looks goods. Cleaner and more modern. The homepage is great. The top of the pages (caches, My Account) look very, very simple. We'll get used to it. So far, I've seen that the problems with the special characters still remains. Keep it up! Link to comment
+The Jester
I was logging caches from a trip we made, and in the middle of that the changes happened. I can NOT change the date of the find from today to the actual date of the find - not on the original log or by editing the log. What gives? Link to comment
+DavidMac
Two things I noticed: First, I'm used to having the nested navigation links at the top of the page (i.e. "Geocaching Home > Seek > View Cache Details" when viewing a cache page) placed in the gray bar at the very top. Now, the text "Geocaching - The Official Global GPS Cache Hunt Site" fills the left side of the bar on every page, and the navigation links are in the whitespace at the top of the page. To me, this doesn't make them stand out very well, and it pushes the rest of the page content down awkwardly, IMO. Second, decrypting/encrypting a hint now completely reloads the page. Being able to do this on the fly was handy. Link to comment

You have now removed the only useful feature of the Friends List. P.S. Also just noticed that my avatar pic displays on GC.com, but it is "squished". +trainlove
[*]Added asterisk to Mega-Event caches in profile geocache tab But Wherigo's and GPS Adventure Maze Exhibits still have no asterix. More importantly, the HTML formatting is all messed up, one can't get to the left side of many pages such as My Account (There it seems to start at Trackables). Link to comment

btrodrigues
It appears to have broken the formatting on three of my caches (GCRJQR, GC17FHM and GCW2RN). These used to render perfectly at 1024x768 and now I'm getting the rightmost column outside of the visible area and some of the HTML formatting is showing up differently. It's a relief not to have lost it so I don't forget about anything in my inventory, but moving it down there makes no sense to me. If you've found a lot of caches in the last 30 days you'll have to scroll a long way to get down there. Meanwhile, it's former location on the right side sits empty and unused. Link to comment

+tozainamboku
What are the rules in Geocaching? 1. If you take something from the cache, leave something of equal or greater value. 2. Write about your find in the cache logbook. 3. Log your experience at www.geocaching.com. You added a rule that you log your experience at www.geocaching.com. Does that mean that I should cross out the names of people who signed the log book and didn't log online? Link to comment

And I wonder if the addtion of this 'guideline' was in relation to the recent forum thread of someone who only logs online and never in the log books (I'd delete every one of their finds on my caches if they were from around here). The first is A-OK by me, the second is against the always existing grounspeak RULES. Edited July 23, 2008 by trainlove Link to comment

With a lot of activity, that's a lot of scrolling to see the inventory. I also like it in the right column. Seems to be plenty of room there, at least on my page. If it is going to be left at the bottom of the page, then it would be nice to have dates added and visible (i.e., the date that you put the item in your inventory). Link to comment
+Wicca57
I see a lot of nice cosmetic upgrades, and I have no doubt there are many "behind the scenes" fixes. Right now, the most important thing that is broken, for me, is the "preview pocket query in Google Maps". There is no longer an icon for that in my PQ list. The "preview" icon now takes me to a new page which looks like it will be cool when it works. Sadly, it seems stuck on Green Lake Park. The "tab" links are also dead ends. I'm sure everyone is working very hard to swat the bugs, and get things rolling smoothy, so this is not a complain-o-gram. Just a note. Link to comment

+Andy33
When you preview a pocket query you now get taken to a map which does not work. If you then go to the list tab this does not show the results of your query. Also I also have links to maps in my public bookmarks these have also stopped working. Would like the Travel Bug inventory moved to the top of the page it’s now a lot of scrolling to find out what you have. Apart from that I like the feel of the new design. Andy Link to comment

knowschad
[*]Removed find and hide count from friends list Looks like a lot of great fixes, but I can't understand "Removed find and hide count from friends list". You have now removed the only useful feature of the Friends List. I totally agree. I was going to post that myself until I saw yours. Previously, I would look at my friend's found count to decide if I wanted to go through the additional three clicks to see which ones they found. I generally know their current count, so I'd only look when I saw that they had found some more. I'd sure like to know why that was removed. Bandwidth? My guess is more likely for screen formatting. I see that now everything fits in a nice, neat grid. If that's the case, there are better ways to fix it than simply removing dynamic data displays. Link to comment
+NYPaddleCacher
The Preview in Google Maps of the Pocket Query page is not displaying (nor the image of the button, nor the link). That's a feature that I would really miss. I create several pocket queries of my area, one with my home location as a the center point, then several which cover areas to the north, south, etc. I can then merge the pocket queries in GSAK depending on which direction I might be heading. I used the "preview in google maps" feature to set the center points for the other PQs so that I don't get too much overlap but still get good coverage. Any particular reason why this feature is not longer available? Link to comment

+walter1
The new release seems to have a changed the printing of the description pages: The left part is truncated so some text is missing. This is in IE and FF. Until now I used to print the description pages. Before this, I decrypted the hint (very ugly that now the page is reloaded as noted before) and printed two or three pages. So I have some logs and were happy outside. PDF formatting is ugly because it writes all the text in one line and does not print the decrypted hint - even if I decrypted it before. "Print Simple (no logs)" is ugly because the missing logs and it does not print the decrypted hint - even if I decrypted it before. Please bring back the old printing! Kaaskopjes
Why are major updates like this done in the middle of summer? Surely the site is quieter in the winter months and such an update would cause far less disruption. I'm sure the updates will be great, but it seems to be an annual event... sit down to plan some pocket queries and caches along a route ready for the upcoming vacation I get 500 Server Error... :-( Link to comment
+PinkDolphin
[*]Removed find and hide count from friends list Looks like a lot of great fixes, but I can't understand "Removed find and hide count from friends list". You have now removed the only useful feature of the Friends List. I really liked that feature! Link to comment

Skippermark
I can't log finds on date before todayNate mentioned that they're working on a hot fix. It's a little confusing because there's 2 threads going on. Nate said to report any issues in this thread, but someone created the "New Geo.com Layout" thread. Looks like it's been locked, so all will be well soon. Link to comment
+SgtSue
Put this one the other thread, but since this is the right place I will repeat. Looks great, will check it all out. Right now I see several of my Bookmark listing missing. One of which I was working on just a few hours prior to the upgrade. They are back THANKS! Is it just me or does the Logo in the top left corner bleed over onto the writing on various pages? IE bookmark page can't see the G on geocaching home page, the B in Bookmark and H in have you? Repeats on all pages but the home page. On the home page my block with avatar and other info is not right aligned making things look a little funny. Could it just be my settings or is it everyone? +Cache O'Plenty
1. My Profile page is misformatted in the top section. Set too wide so now the picture is off to the right of the screen. Should narrow the text area of my basic profile information. 2. Please return the find/hide counts to the friends list page. Otherwise, that page is much better now that the boxes are aligned properly. Might want to program in a sort function so the "Friends" are in alphabetical order by cacher name. 3. Please return the Trackable Inventory to the right column, preferably right below the "Welcome" box. This is the "live" data we need on our base page and it should be on the screen the moment it opens. 4. Editing a log to correct a wrong find date seems to "take" but it doesn't. The log on the cache page shows that it was edited but the date remains the same "wrong" date. Overall, the new home page looks real good. Link to comment
