+LwGeO
Looking for a PDA just to use for paperless geocaching only. One that has a screen easy to see outside. Are there any decent ones under $100? Is the palm zire 31 any good? Edited July 19, 2008 by LWGEO Quote Link to comment
xxgg
Not sure about a PDA but I personally use my cellular phone, Sony Ericsson W810i and it is capable of reading plain *.txt file. I am guessing if your cellphone have any level of web browsing feature I think it can read a plain text file too. Give it a try. Might just work. Quote Link to comment
+Chuy!
There are threads about using your iPod. Google it for a list of websites offering information. I use a PocketPC; so, can't help with Palms. Cachers in my area like the Palm IIIxe or Vx. Quote Link to comment
+Indotguy
I prefer a pocket PC because there seem to be more mapping options available for the Windows Mobile platform. If your only interested in cache descriptions then a Palm would probably be ok. Quote Link to comment
+Miragee
Welcome to the Forums! I've had a Palm m500 for several years and it works great for caching. It is easy-to-see in bright sunlight, something that is not true of the much-more-expensive Palm TX or some of the Zire models. The Palm m515 also works great and if you want to spend a bit more money, the Zire 72 Silver Edition has more features. Both of those are easy to see outside, but the batteries don't last quite as long as that of the m500. You shouldn't need to spend more than $30.00 on a Palm that connects to your computer with USB. Then you'll probably want to spend a little more for a hard case. I got a nice PalmOne case for the price of shipping. Cachemate is a very reasonable $8.00. Quote Link to comment
