Just purchased a new GPS60CSX (hope its a good choice..)

 

My question is is it worth getting additional maps, if so what is available for the UK (dont want to spend a fortune), will only be using it for contours, rivers etc as I have a seperate satnav for the roads.

All you need to use the free TOPO's is a memory card for your gps.

The Garmin UK TOPO's are nice as you can autoroute with them. I believe that they have to be unlocked to your GPS unless you pick up a preprogrammed card.

If you mean the GPS unit, then you will not have to unlock anything. The only thing that would need to be unlocked is locked mapsets that come on CD or DVD from Garmin such as TOPO UK or City Navigator Europe. Your unit should come with a CD called Trip and Waypoint Manager, install that and then you can install the free mapset without unlocking it as is is not locked. The preprogrammed card versions of Garmin maps are unlocked to the datacard that they come on. Hope that helps.
