+nelson crew
The GPS doesn't store waypoints on the memory card, it stores them internally. Have you tried using GSAK? Quote Link to comment

+Team Chinook
gsak is geocaching swiss army knife. It is a program that allows you to work with .gpx files and sort them and manage them and transfer them to your gps receiver. You should likely download it and try it. It is free for a limited time and then a nag screen comes up, but it is worth the small amount of money. You should click on your member name and go to member features and setup some pocket caches, which will download large numbers of caches a single time in a specific area, along a route, etc. You can then get them into your gps via gsak or likely through the garmin web interface that I think works with etrex. good luck. -Team chinook Quote Link to comment
jholly
and to answer the question of why an external card? maps and track logs. If you get city nav or tropo those maps go into the card. If you like a really big tracklog then you put it into the card and your limited by available space. Jim Quote Link to comment

Motorcycle_Mama
You can also load them as Custom POIs to the SD card. Quote Link to comment
tceaves
Since you are a premium member at www.geocaching.com you can setup pocket queries to get the caches in a gpx. Then import the gpx to GSAK. I use GSAK to create a smart name and to create a short description which includes cache terrain, difficulty, size and the hint if there is enough room for it to fit. The link in post #7 is a great starting place. Quote Link to comment
