Are you a Geocoin Metal Collector?

Recommended Posts

Though I do this less and less, I have and will remain to be a Geocoin Metal Collector.

Meaning, that If a Geocoin is finished in several Metals, I often try to collect "All of the Flavors."

Three Metals often suffices!

This can be and is often Pricey! But I Love to open my binders and see all of the different metals

of my favorite coins. Here are my questions:

1. Are you a Geocoin Metal Collector?

2. Do you think it is Selfish to seek all of the Metals of your Favorites?

3. What is your Favorite Metal Type? (Mine is Polished Silver)

2. Do you think it is Selfish to seek all of the Metals of your Favorites?

Of course it is but man is inherently selfish so why fight it

It depends. If I really like a coin design I try to get all finishes. But this is unfortunately very pricey. So usually I buy only some metals or put some into my traders box.

It somehow is. But do you really care in that case?

3. What is your Favorite Metal Type?

Depends on the coin. I used to be a silver-guy. But now I'm getting more and more into gold finishes. Foggy is great, but also antique.

--- I have been, but not so much now. I have to practice control somewhere. If I can tell by the photos I choose which I like best. If I can't tell, I often order (or trade for) more than one metal then decide when I have them in hand. The other(s) I trade or release.

2. Do you think it is Selfish to seek all of the Metals of your Favorites?

--- Of course not. It's your money

3. What is your Favorite Metal Type? (Mine is Polished Silver)

--- It depends on the coin, really. More often antiqued metals, but some coins look better polished (in my humble opinion of course ;) ).

Antique Copper - unless a coin design supports a different finish better.

I used to be, but it got too expensive, so now I just pick one or 2 metals that I like.

2. Do you think it is Selfish to seek all of the Metals of your Favorites?

Not at all!

I really have a fondness for Antique Copper, but really, I'll pick whatever metal I think looks good for that particular design. Antique Silver is my second favorite.

1 I will only keep one of each coin, but I will often buy several different metals and decide which one to keep after seeing them in person (and sometimes that takes a while!). The others go into trade bin or are released.

2 No.

3 It varies from coin to coin, but usually antique: copper, silver, gold in that order.

No, I've gotten a few coins in all the different metals, but I have to like the way the other varieties look.

2. Do you think it is Selfish to seek all of the Metals of your Favorites?

Nope

3. What is your Favorite Metal Type?

Antique silver. But certain designs look better in other colors and metals, so I usually get the combo I think I like best.

1. Are you a Geocoin Metal Collector?

Yes, definitely.... any chance I get to collect every metal of a given coin, I go for it.

2. Do you think it is Selfish to seek all of the Metals of your Favorites?

Selfish? Not at all. Everybody has a fair chance at all coins, all metals.

3. What is your Favorite Metal Type?

Black nickel (especially if it has gold on it)

Yes I am, but I guess that has to stop soon. It gets very expencive...

2. Do you think it is Selfish to seek all of the Metals of your Favorites?

No, I don't...

3. What is your Favorite Metal Type? (Mine is Polished Silver)

It depends on the coin, but I tend to like the copper ones.

(and I just love two-tones)

I buy what I like best, metal doesn't matter.

Why is it selfish to seek out all the metal combos? To each his/her own.

I love Black Nickel and that by far is my favorite but it doesn't look good on many coins, has to be done right. I used to dislike antique copper and antique silver but those are a very close second to the BN now. I have never tried the antique nickel but after I saw CF30's Ya'al Feathers sample in it, I'm going ot have to try that too.

Metals I can't stand (I know, I know, lol) antique gold, and antique bronze. I just can't bring myself to purposely buy those metals or make anything in those metals. I'm a metal snob, what can I say

1. Are you a Geocoin Metal Collector?

Depends on how the coin looks like within the different metals.

2. Do you think it is Selfish to seek all of the Metals of your Favorites?

Nope

3. What is your Favorite Metal Type?

Most of the time I would say Black Nickel.

But I like also the Antique or Satin versions of the different metals

Well....I really can not say that I collect all metal variety in coins, just because of my wallet limits, but if I find different metals, of course I keep them! I personally bewlieve that they are actually different coins! that is why when I keep info about the coins I have in my collection, I want to know only for the metal I have, and not the general issue! So....Hmm Am I a geocoin mettel collector? ...Maybe!

2. Do you think it is Selfish to seek all of the Metals of your Favorites?

Oh not at all!!!! Let me tell you something as a coin collector (real coins)!

Coins may be minted in UNC, in Proof.... ok?

If you want to have a complete series as a collector, you must have all versions!!!!

I believe the same thing is with geocoins! If you want to say I have the series completed, you must have them all, in all versions! if not... you can just have one specimen in your collection!

Everything is according to what you want and how much money you can spend! :o

3. What is your Favorite Metal Type?

Hmm...I really can not answer that question, for a simple reason!

Some coins look fantastic in a metal and others not!

For example....let's say you like BN coins! Well.... I am sure you have seen some coins that they do not look good in that metal, but look fantastic in an other!!!

So, the only thing I have to say, is that I prefer the metal that goes best in each coin! Sometimes it is BN, sometimes, Satin silver, sometimes antique gold.....

Well , in this house it gets hard even if one only wants his or her own favorite. Nobody can agree on a favorite.

2. Do you think it is Selfish to seek all of the Metals of your Favorites?

Of course not, if budget and my shoulder can handle it we would have them all. Sadly neither work that well.

3. What is your Favorite Metal Type? (Mine is Polished Silver)

Tracy- Antique Copper

Tank- Black Nickel

Neil- Gold

Justin-anything that is shiney

Hallie- gets whatever is left over.

1. Are you a Geocoin Metal Collector?

Depends on the coin itself..... if it is one that appeals, then yes.

If it is themed away from my peace seeking nature, then no. One will suffice, sometimes none if it is non-pacifist. If it is cute, then several.... and so it goes on.

2. Do you think it is Selfish to seek all of the Metals of your Favorites?

No, but for a small production run, I am disappointed when I discover I can buy even one and others have several of each finish... then again at least once I have got two sets of something that I think I could trade or surprise someone later.

3. What is your Favorite Metal Type? (Mine is Polished Silver)

I'm a Silver girl.... anything silver, but Black Nickel as a contrast against other colours often works for me too.

Why do I love coins? Why oh why?

If I really like a coin, I try to get all the metals. The 2006 and 2007 Compass Roses are good examples, I am also trying to get all of the Scout Knives, I have all of the Anthus Laptops and Pengo Family's March of the Penguins to the Cache, The Templars etc etc. Sometimes I will buy or trade for all the metals of one coin to realise belatedly that I only like one metal version.

When it is a very limited run of coins it might be considered by some to be greedy or selfish to get all the metals, but if you truly love the coin, you have gotta do what you've gotta do! And dagnabbit to the consequences....

But my favourite metal type? Hmmm I love shiny gold and shiny silver, but I dont want all of my coins in them. For example three of my Top 20 favourite coins are the Geomuse 2007 in shiny copper, the Moab/Kokopelli in Black Nickel and the Rusty o' Junk in Bronze. But it all depends on how the metals looks on the coin ...... in person!
