Which Non-Trackable coins are your favorite?

I have seen discussions in the past about what geocoins are your favorite and they usually end up being all trackable ones. There are some great trackable coins out there. But I would like to know what non trackable coins are your favorite and why? In the beginning all geocoins were non-trackable from what I can tell. Correct me if I am wrong.

Some of my favorites are;

-Indy Diver coins

-Coinfusion Project coins

-Ajetpilot

There are others too.

Yaahls feather - great coin, wonderful idea and design and it's crow-related...:)

LoriDarlin personal coin - wonderful coin of a great person, a moon on one side and a cross on the other, paired with an interesting saying.

so glad that i have these non-trackable beauties in my collection.

have to think of some others, too, there are a lot of more nice coins out there....:(

Hmmm . . .

This begs a question

If it is not trackable, what makes it a "geocoin" ?

Don't get me wrong

I am not taking issue or nitpicking

I'm just curious

For example, that pewter feather is absolutely awesome

I'd be happy to just see one, let alone own one

It is certianly a work of art, and a stunning one at that

But what, specifically, is there about it that makes it a "geocoin" ?

I'm guessing that it is pretty much just that the creator/maker/producer deemed it to be such

And nothing more (nor anything less)

I will be interested to hear other thoughts on this topic

My personal geocoins aren't trackable but they're geocoins because they say so right on the geocoin:

Seriously, I don't think tracking makes it a geocoin. If it was made in the spirit of geocaching, that makes it a geocoin.

Some of my favorite non-trackables are the Tikis, 2Dolphins, Lemon Fresh Dog Geobone, Yime, and many more I can't quite remember right now. :P

I am sure that the oldies around here will correct me if I am wrong but with the exception of mountain bike all geocoins were swag and non trackable. When Groundspeak first allowed tracking on them there was still a load of non trackables being made and traded. Once the idea of tracking and especially icons came in then the non trackable took a back seat in many peoples mind. As a lot of newbies came in then there wasw less concentration on these. Evolution happens - not many non trackables swopped on forum (Broken W is an exception) now. It is all mystery coins and missions and cointests. We have in my opinion lost individual creativity in some cases as the need for icon and tracking adds so much money. I could not have afforded that on the top of my chester coin I would have had to have worked a deal as I did with the sherlock holmes coin and this leads to compromise for the company's commercial gain.

Just my 2 penniworth

Bob

Maybe we should have a non trackable trading thread - "Back when I was Young....."

It's an excellent question and much debated, but in the end it always seems to boil down to the same things: 1) Produced by geocachers and for geocachers 2) produced specifically with the intent of leaving in caches or cachers hands 3) often the personal signature item of a geocacher as a form of identity ("I was here") to enrich the caching experience for others. From what I've seen some of the earliest geocoins (and most infamous) were non-trackable. Look at some just here in the coins listed and you'll see what I mean. Want to stir a really big pot? Try and argue that YemonYime's Yimes aren't geocoins! :anitongue: That'll get things cookin! :anicute:

You might also ask what make a signature item a geocaching signature item, what makes a swag bag out of a backpack or a caching partner out of a friend.
