hcashooter Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 I have a 60CSx and it is set to route on the road after a trip we took last week. It worked great as it told all the turns and everything. Well today I check out the GC website and there is a new cache in my area and I went out at lunch for a FTF only to have the darn unit put me in the middle of the road! I understand that the cache was close due to the clue but it could not find the area near the site. I looked at all the menus and tried to turn off the routing, and stuff but was not successful. Next I tried a cache that was about 200 yrds by the crow fly away but the darn unit had me going back to the road, travel .2 miles, turn right, travel .2 miles again then on to the cache. i know that i have turned something on that I want to turn off but I can find it...any help would be great! Joe Did you do Setup Menu > Routing > Guidance Method > Off Road ? Quote
hcashooter Posted June 30, 2008 Author Posted June 30, 2008 yes I tried that but it kept trying to calculate the route to the cache and not just point to the darn thing and let me go stomping off to find the cache. Quote
+Thrak Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Should be the same as my 76CSx. Set the routing to ASK. That way, when you hit Go To, it will ask if you want On Road or Off Road and will likely have a little check box to tell it if you want to be asked again or always use the setting you choose. I always leave mine set to ask so I can be driven to the cache and then switch to off road for finding the thing. Quote

+JSWilson64 Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 This probably isn't too helpful, but I've had my 60CSx do that sometimes, too. I'm not sure why, either. Once when we were heading for a city that was 200 miles to the North on the highway we were on (we were on the feeder/access road at the time), it tried to have us U-turn and go back, then U-turn again. About all I can offer is what I tell my kids is "Dad's #1 rule for troubleshooting electronics" -- turn it off, count to 10, and turn it back on. Try turning the electronic compass off, too. If you're stuck like that again, you could try a suggestion I've seen here, which is to put it on a screen that displays your coords, and look at the coords of the hide on a sheet of paper. Move in the appropriate direction so that your coords approach those of the hide. Quote

That's what I tend to do when I get close to my target -- I just wish there was a way to get a single screen that listed the coords of your next waypoint AND your current coords; is there? I've tried to find a way to do it a few times, can't see that there is a way...I find it odd that there's no data field for coords of your destination or next waypoint. sigh Quote
hcashooter Posted July 1, 2008 Author Posted July 1, 2008 Thanks for all the information. I will try out my new knowledge this afternoon and see if it works. BTW, the cache was fould by 2 people yeaterday and its a micro so the "rush" to find it is gone... Quote
