+globaltrainer
The same thing happened to me. I placed a micro about 500 ft from the location of a mystery cache. You would have to cross a parking lot and a 4 lane intersection to get them confused but it was denied. I asked for an exemption, denied. The best part, one of the caches you had to find to get the mystery was disabled and has been for quiite a while now. They look at these caches from a cubical mindset and not the cahers mindset. Oh, how I wish I could escape my cubicle and find lots of caches like you've done over your past four months on the site. Then I might get in touch with that "cahers mindset." I miss being a caher. Its not easy to review all the caches, I don't think anyone would say that. I believe that sometimes you have to look at things from a different perspective to see it. There are instances that two caches might be close together in terms of COORDS, but in reality they aren't that close at all. Example of 2 caches that would be located on dead ends that are cut off by an interstate. By rule those 2 wouldn't be allowed, but in reality it would take you 6 miles of driving to reach both of them! To Keystone, you know your setting in the Groundspeak 100 Story High rise on the 92nd floor!!!! LOL Quote Link to comment
Keystone
Yep, I know about the interstate example. I've probably granted exceptions three times this year for that. Another I turned down because there was an overpass connecting the two caches. Today I received no fewer than two thank-you notes after saying "no" under the cache saturation guideline. One fellow is a new hider and appreciated the education. The other one said he didn't like the hiding spot that much, and my note was the thing that put him over the top to finding a better cache location. Most folks are polite and understanding about such things. All in a day's work here on the 92nd floor. Quote Link to comment

Vinnie, at the next security briefing please remind the reviewers that discussion of how deep the GSP complex goes is not a topic for forum discussion. Thanks. Michael Quote Link to comment
Keystone
I'm sorry Michael. From now on, I'll limit myself to generalized statements like "It's pretty deep in here." Quote Link to comment

I've yet to place my first cache but when I do, I hope to find a more exciting location than that! I didn't start this hobby to spend my time walking around car parks and main roads thank you. I'm glad for the hobby that it got turned down. Well done Mr Reviewer for sticking to the guidelines. Quote Link to comment
+GSVNoFixedAbode
[edit] ...on second thought, already covered. Guidelines are good. Capt'n Barbosa had it right. Edited June 25, 2008 by GSVNoFixedAbode Quote Link to comment

But there's nothing in that quote to indicate how exciting or not the cache is, or even what the terrain is like - only an indication of the route to the next nearest cache, so how can you possibly make that sort of statement? I can think off dozens of very good caches around here - including at least two 5/5's that would fit into that statement.... unless you started this hobby to only find caches that are at least 500ft from the nearest road? (In the UK you'll be excluding yourself from 80% of the caches) Quote Link to comment

By your statement you would limit those Urban cachers. How do you know that there wasn't a small park on the other side of the parking area? Assumption? a cache is what YOU make out of it, not anything less. I've had just as many countryside caches that would be boring by some standards. So what is your point? That all caches should be hidden in the middle of a forest under a large rock with moss on it? Quote Link to comment

I figure when I get to the point of pushing a walker in front of me, that's when I'll chase that 80% (chase being a relative term by then.) Quote Link to comment

So what is your point? That all caches should be hidden in the middle of a forest under a large rock with moss on it?"Boring" is a pretty personal judgement, too, as there are as many opinions on caches as there are cachers. I have several hundred (I like to think unique) hides out there and can also attest to the fact that I've had quite a few declined. If I felt more review was needed I diplomatically approached the reviewer but all the time take the "oh well" apporach if it gets turned down. This is a game and not one to get an ulcer over. I have been declined a couple times for having one too close to the final of a multi. On one, stage 1 was 8 miles away, I had to figure it out and find it to know where I could place mine. If I couldn't do it then "oh well". The reviewer here is a wonderful person and I don't envy their pretty much thankless volunteer job, I always keep that in mind when I'm submitting something. There are exceptions made occasionally but civilly requested, justified and approved. But if they're declined... once again, "oh well". After all, this is a game and if it became "not fun" for any reason I'd find something else to do, but I don't see that happening as long as we all keep good perspective Quote Link to comment
