And we have a new King of the SA Earthcache hiders - well done Team iPajero.

Yep - SA only - not even neighboring countries - as I know that a few guys on the list also have Botswana, Namibia, Zim, Moz or Swaziland caches too - perhaps i'll get someone with GSAK to crunch those numbers for me?

SA has just reached 281 active Earthcaches! Keep them coming - 300 is just around the corner. Western Cape remain the leading province - and actually extend their lead.

HAPPY 10TH BIRTHDAY - EARTHCACHING IN SOUTH AFRICA!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday EARTHCACHING in South Africa!!!!!!

10 years ago today - the first Earthcache in South Africa .

http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GCPX24_vredefort-koepel-earthcache

Was places by owner BJBez on 24 July 2005.

Since then almost 300 earthcaches have been submitted in South Africa - we have our own Earthcache reviewer (GeoawareAFR) and even have a challenge cache related to Earthcaches.

Keep them coming!

Competition - prize giveaway!!!!!

Just because it's the 10th Anniversary of Earthcaching in South Africa - and we are approaching 300 active caches in South Africa - I will be giving a random owner of a new earthcache a prize (probably an unactivated geocoin/TB) for any new cache submitted in August, September & October.

This will be for any cache owned by a RESIDENT of one of South Africa or her neighbours (Nam, Bots, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Swaziland).

So come along. Get the new earthcaches going!

Please share this on all the FaceBook pages and I look forward to the results.

TOTAL 347 - so getting the Earthcache rewards is now a lot easier.

Trusting the many more cachers now have their Earth Cache Masters (Platinum) - and 100 ECs is also now so much more possible for local cachers.

Western Cape have dominated this type - and a good few new ones planned for the MEGA too - so looks like it may be the first province to break 100 earthcaches on its own.

Just a shout out to all the EC owners in SA. Thanks for your efforts. On a recent trip we managed to do quite a few EC and appreciate all the research and effort that the CO's have placed into the caches. My kids are less favourable of them (they like to find a treasure) but the odd snippet of information is sticking in their young minds and as the travels progressed they did ask more pointed questions especially of the geological variety. My high school geography was getting somewhat stretched on occasion when there wasn't an EC handy to answer their questions. I might just have to unarchive my list of potential EC sites which I shelved almost a decade ago.

Great to hear this - EC's really rock. Not only do I really enjoy them - there are often really great traditionals at some of these interesting sites too. Double whammy

Look forward to finding them ... we 1 province away from our platinum status now and the more ECs we find the more we love them.
