MISSION: - Gift, cache & travel.

Okay all you geocoiners.

I've seen in this forum, geocachers who have travelling geocoins, geocoiners who find geocoins too precious and beautiful to part with; newbies with their first geocoins, some who cache, some who collect...... and lots in between.

Watching all the missions, new coin releases etc got me thinking.

How about a mission where you gift / are gifted a geocoin that you don't initially see....

But you activate, once the giver notifies you of the coin name / type and it's tracking number.

THEN (and this is the hard bit for those who like to have the coin in the palm of their hand)

....

:D

You set up the coin to travel to you.....

It's travelling mission is to reach a cache close to your home.

And the giver will attach a tag to the geocoin (preferably without drilling it, but by using the double plastic envelope that most coins come in) and that giver will then set it off by placing it in a cache.

So - you give a coin, notify the giftee (receiver) of the coin / tracking number. Have them activate it and then print the mission out, attach it and place it in a cache.

You in turn, will receive notification from another of a coin, activate it, let them place it in a cache and watch it travel home.

Yes - some may go missing. Some may take detours. This will be a long mission. However last year I had two Germany coin race home to me, and they made it within two months. My hubby's is still travelling.

It was FUN.

If you have NEVER released a coin, this is the chance to "let go"

Will you

Or are you still not ready....

time will tell.

Rules - all coins must be trackable.

- you must be prepared to visit a cache within two weeks of starting this mission.

If I get good feedback, I'll start another forum for those who wish to participate, and get it underway next month (July - mid winter down here, summer caching months for most)

Only cost involved is the one coin plus a trip to a cache.

No HUGE postage costs involved.

Actually I have set up exactly what is described here a while back. See thread:

http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=186599

There were not too many participants, but there are still a few people who 'missed the boat' and are waiting for round two

Thanks for that - I missed that one totally.

Good feedback so far - so probably looking at doing it - would like to see at least 20 participants from at least 3 different world wide areas.

As I have over 50 coins "out in the wild", I'm not too worried, that this one might get lost...

I'd be interested to take part in this mission, never having participated in missions before.

I would give the receiver a choice of coin as well.

Kind regards, ElliPirelli

Have read about such a mission before, sounds like fun

Even though I prefer my coins bare + my name scrached in them... (Minimizes the chance of getting stolen) :D

Bare? Meaning no tag it envelope?

I'd guess that the sender could send it that way if you prefer, and they could probably scratch in your name too.

That´s what I meant, I think collectors like the coins when they are uncirculated, if you do not put one of these envelopes aroud it, it gets "used"...

:P

Hey Linda,

I'm in for this one. Have a coin sitting here waiting on a name.

Just to clarify. you send me a name, i contact them with the details, they activate it and i place it in a cache?

Looking forward to this one.

OK, so is the coin addopted by the recipient of the gift, while it is still on the way? I would be interested in participating. My selection of coins is not amazing though.

No - not adopted.

Gift an unactivated coin, send an email to the giftee / receiver with the coin code & name/ type. Maybe the activation code also, but rather the address for the activation code to be picked up.

The Giftee activates it, and nominates the cache destination.

The gifter prints / writes a tag to go with the coin about it's goal / mission

and the gifter visits a cache and drops the coin in there to set it's on it's way.

From New Zealand I currently have coins in Australia, US, Asia, UK and Europe.... so they do travel!

You've got it.

Looks like this one is a go-er.

I'll look again after work today and get it underway.

Thanks for the support all....

Now-

If you've NEVER released a coin in the wild - here's a chance for you too! Courage and patience is the only cost.....

As per the previous forum asking for feedback. Here we go on a geocoin mission that travels cache by cache.

One coin per mission. Here's how it will work.

Email me through my profile or direct (geocache@wallace.net.nz) if you wish to participate by June 30th

Include

1. Subject - Gift, cache & travel mission

2. Your geocaching profile name

3. Your real name and email address

4. Your geographical location.

5. How many missions you wish to participate in.

I'll post a list of those participating later in June.

THEN in July (by the 10th - but probably much sooner) you should receive an email from me. (Linda aka Butterfly_Lady)

You will then email the receiver (giftee) of your mission with the name & tracking number of the unactivated coin you are giving.

The receiver will activate it (possibly with your help) and decide it's mission, including the cache GC number that it is aiming to travel to.

You will then in the next two weeks, travel to a cache and drop the geocoin in. And also log it in electronically.

Put it on your watchlist also.

Post your mission update:

1. Participating - (email sent)

2. Nick/destination received - (date)

3. Outgoin coin mission details attached - (date)

4. Outgoing coin released in cache GC (Date)

5. Incoming coin picked up - cache GC (&date)

HAVE FUN. I'll be releasing some too.....

 Butterfly takes a deep breath, knowing that she is about to get lots of emails and will be testing her spreadsheet skills.
