GPSr repair

Recommended Posts

I bought a Garmin 60 csx last year and it needs repaired. (Warranty is out of date)

The screen will light up once in a while but very seldom.

Has anyone had one repaired? Lookin for a good place and a reasonable price. I've heard Garmin charges quite a bit just to diagnos a problem.

I concur with Miragee. I submitted a 60CS for repair that was out of warranty and they replaced it with a new one. The GPS was on my bike and I hit a bump and it popped out of the cradle. I subsequently ran over it and poked a hole in the body. It still worked fine, but it was no longer water proof. :)

Even IF they charge you for the repairs, it will only cost you $150. Considering you have used this unit for over a year, this is a reasonable price to pay.

I take it you haven't gotten on the Garmin web site and looked into this. Since the Garmin Colorado line was introduced, this price has been reduced from $175.

Also, the 800# to Garmin is in the back of your book.

Thanks Miragee and Chuy!.

At least that gives me a little hope.

Only $150. Obviously you make more than I do.

Just to add some more info, I bought the unit used off the board here. The warranty was almost expired when I bought it. The guy I bought it from said to send it to garmin and use his name so they would honor the warranty. I just never got "around to it", and now it's out of warranty.

Nope, I haven't been on the Garmin website in along time. I figured if they charge a flat rate of 150 bucks I just as well buy another unit. I don't know alot about electronics, but I know enough to figure this thing can be fixed for a few bucks worth of parts at the most.

I'll go check out their site again and maybe give 'em a call to see what they say. (I hate phones...:lol: )

I just called about the power button on my 60cs. it doesn't like to work in the heat of a car, and i had forgotten that and today the rubber over it cracked. so i called about the cracked rubber piece and the power button that is a pain to use generally after a few hot cars. the guy told me that 125 is flat rate but he would do mine for 70 since it seemed hat was the only problem i am having.

seems reasonable, but i wonder if there is a glue or something i can use to seal it back up. I don't want to be without for 2 weeks (even though i had lost it for a month or more recently) and still think 70 is a bit high for a piece of rubber and a switch. almost wish i could get the parts and do it myself.

on another note has anyone successfully taken one apart and repaired any problems themselves? I have been searching for power button issues but apparently i stink at searching these forums...

I had a rino that did not work to my satisfaction and when I sent it back I said if it was ok with them I would rather have a handheld the same value, which was the venture. They sent me a venture.

It started turning off intermittently and I didn't call garmin back till this year when I got a new venture HC. I was going to throw the old one away but called garmin and they said for 73 bucks they would fix it.

I sent them the unit and check and in about a week had a new venture (the same model I sent in) and it has worked fine ever since.

I think they have very good customer service.

I have a GPSMAP 60C and I have taken it apart many times to repair it. One issue was the screen blanking out after a hard or not so hard shock. The remedy was to apply some conductive grease to some electrical contacts between two halves of the unit.

I've also had problems with the power switch. After separating the two sides I just pulled off the rubber top to look around. Didn't find what was wrong so I just have to push it harder every once in a while.

A remedy for the cracked rubber is some black silicone sealant.
