+Mr Gadget Man Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Greetings I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day. I'm having trouble with my brand new Garmin 60 CSx unit. It will not turn on, and yes, I have fresh batteries in it, but still no start-up. I believe the unit has a bad on/off button. Has anyone else had this problem? I thought I read someone else on the forum taking about the little rubber covered buttons on Garmin units sometime go bad. I bought the unit brand new on Amazon.com in Feb. 2008, (less than 90 days ago) and I'm having a heck of a time getting any help from them. If the item bought on Amazon, is over 30 days old you can not do a return. so I had to send a regular e-mail to Amazon directly.Good thing I still had the Order number. All I want is an exact exchange Wish me luck. Gadget Man My Kids May Be Smarter Than I, But I Know More. Quote
+TexasGringo Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 I have to hold the button down for a second or two for mine to turn on....if you just press it quick, it won't go on. Quote
+Miikey Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Same thing happened with my Summit HC.Wont turn on anymore for anything so needs a trip to Garmin. Quote
+anniebananie Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 My replacement 60cs had the same problem. Try it on external power. Mine worked on external but not on batteries. It took a vacation to Olathe. Anniebananie Quote
rusted root Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 i had problems with my 60cx on/off button. I resolved it by removing the top rubber cover, this is done by gently pulling up and wiggling it with enough force to break the low strength adhesive bond. Next I put a small piece of rubber, use whatever works best for you, down on top of the on off switch, then put it all back together. This gave the rubber on/off piece a little extra reach. Don't go too big on your modification or the switch will become too responsive, only needs to be the size of a large grain of sand or so. be sure to test it before reapplying adhesive. Quote

Thanks for this info. I have recently had trouble turning my 60csx on, I've noticed that it is more of a problem when the device is warm (sitting in the car on a hot day) I have had plenty of experience taking this thing apart so pulling off the rubber top will be a piece of cake. sviking Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 I have recently had trouble turning my 60csx on, I've noticed that it is more of a problem when the device is warm (sitting in the car on a hot day) The reason for this is because you aren't directly pressing the "ON" button...when you press what you think is the "ON" button... There is a thin plastic rod going from the rubber "ON" button down to the actual "ON" switch on the circuit board. When the unit gets hot, this thin plastic rod gets soft and flexes to the side instead of actuating the "real" power switch when you try to turn it on/off. Simply place it in a cool area and the problem goes away in a minute or two. Even putting it in the shade will alleviate the problem. Some people have replaced this rod with a thin wooden dowel that won't flex if it gets hot. Quote
