+pfcfencer1 Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 So I am planning on going to a geocache event in mid-June (my first)... I was wonder how you get all of the coordinates for the hundred or so caches that are going to be released? Do you get a slip of paper with all of the coordinates and then you type them in? Or do you have to download every single one of them into your GPSr the night before or morning of? Quote
+Airmapper Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Hundreds? Must be some event. It depends on the event organizers. Can you post the event page link? Quote

+keehotee Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 As a premium member the easiest way surely would be just to set up a PQ centred on the event co-ords......?? Quote
+joranda Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Not all events even place caches for the event. Some are just a straight up event to go there and mingle with the other caches. I'd love to go to a event where they place 100 caches. Quote
+J-Way Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 It depends on the type of cache. Temporary caches (only there for the duration of the event, not listed on Geocaching.com): you'll probably get a piece of paper with coordinates which must be hand-entered. Permanent caches (officially listed) that are published the day of the event: You'll either have to hand-enter from a piece of paper, or obtain access to a laptop with wi-fi and download a PQ. Or, just tag along with the group and sign your name when someone else finds the cache Quote
+Kit Fox Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 (edited) I've been to an event where 100 plus new caches (with GC #3) had been posted the night before the event. A pocket query, GSAK, and about two minutes of time were all that was needed to transfer 500 waypoints to my old Magellan. Edited May 23, 2008 by Kit Fox Quote

I'd love to go to a event where they place 100 caches. I actually prefer events where there are no caches. I go there to mingle and meet people that's not easy to do when everybody is off hunting caches. I hate looking at the logs after the event and seeing numerous people who where there but I never got to meet. Quote
+The Pathman Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 We went to one last month where the new caches weren't published until the event time. We were all handed a slip of paper with the coordinates at the same time. There was a cacher driving by the area and got a phone notification of the new caches and was FTF on one of them while we were still talking and having fun Quote

Come to Wisconsin on 8/16/08, we are working our tails off to place 50 NEW permanent caches! GC1AW6D, a whole weekend of three events. Edited May 23, 2008 by LDove Quote
