Longfram Kev
I'm going up to Aviemore on Monday to work for 5 weeks and was wondering if there are any "Must Do" caches that I can do on "days off" I'm in the process of loading 500 nearest caches into Palm and Gps as I'm not sure yet as to where I'll be staying in the area. Any help would gratefully be received. Quote Link to comment
Haggis Hunter
With being in the area for 5 weeks you have plenty of time to do the Summit to Sea series, Not many have completed it, I will try the next time I am in the area? To be honest, from the times I have been in the area, any of the caches are worthwhile. I hope you enjoy your stay? Quote Link to comment
Clyde.
Having been up to the Inverness area a good few times over the past yr, I can only repeat that all of the caches in the area are great BUT..... The one that we all enjoyed the most was 'The Eyes Have It' But it is a subscriber only cache and Bonnie couldn't log it but she used my account to post a note as it was that good. +Haggis Hunter
But it is a subscriber only cache and Bonnie couldn't log it but she used my account to post a note as it was that good. Off topic but I am sure Kev won't mind this bit of advice. Why not ask Tooey if Bonnie can log the cache under her account, I think you have got a good enough reason why both of you don't have premium membership. If permission is granted, then whilst on the premium account go to the log in page, copy the URL and then change the login details to Bonnie's, paste the URL and you should be able to log the cache with Bonnie's account. Bonnie will not be able to see her log, but it will be accredited to her account. I have done this with permission for my daughters account, when she has been with me finding a premium members cache. +Teuchters
As the owner of most of the caches round there, you are welcome to PM me and I'll send you my email address - although I moved away from the area about 6 months ago, I am still not too far away. With regard to the Summit to Sea series, the final (Hidden) cache has not been visited for some time - it is probably not there. However, I am sure we can discuss that later!!!!! +Rocky Balboa
Balmenach Cache is just a few mins drive from Aviemore high Street and is one of my favourite caches ever, set by a loch with a mountain backdrop and sandy beach, you can get some cracking photos here, really is a hidden jem. Enjoy your trip and make sure you spend a night or 2 in the Vault ha you'll see... Quote Link to comment
Rocky Balboa
Hve just checked out the logs for it and it looks like its missing in action as there are loads of no finds, perhaps you could replace it if your there for a while, would be sad to see this one go, I always revisit when i'm in the area, but it could be a while before i'm there again! +MBFace
The geriatric teenager in our team really enjoyed Tooey's Adventure No. 1. We have a pretty good idea of the location and nature of the final cache in the Summit to Sea series and are looking forward to completing it - "just" the Summit to do first . Excellent, just tried it and it works so it will open up a lot of caches that we would love to do but avoid because of the subscriber issue...now to get permission Big thumbs up Quote Link to comment
Scotsbob
Kev, I've just returned from Aviemore and only found one cache there (Igloo(see my log)) just make sure you don't do as I did as I downloaded the PQ for Aviemore into my Palm only to discover when I got there that you need to download the GPX file to get all the info into GSAK first. Doh Quote Link to comment
Team Incredible
Few of our favourites in Aviemore are, Balmenach Cache - GCK80Y - Right on the beach at Loch Morlich. 18 months ago there were women sun bathing here in September in bikinis. Kept the 3 males in the team amused once we'd finished canoeing. Plenty to do at this spot as well as the cache Strathspey No 5 - The Wolf's Lair - GCG256. Rothiemurchas estate is well worth a visit. As you walk around the Loch if you stand directly in front of the castle and shout across you get a great echo. Tends to make the wildlife hide, but still great fun. Still amuses the boys when we are there. Ryvoan - GCJBVN - The green Lochan is amazing, well worth the short walk on from the cache. We couldn't believe how green it is, apparently its something to do with fairies. We're in Aviemore several times a year but seem to spend too much time socialising rather than finding more caches up there............. Quote Link to comment
L8HNB
We agree with the Incredibles and would add these: GCGHJC - Summit to Sea - Through the Woods (on up from The Wolfs Lair), GCFB96 - Strathspey #2 - Up the Glen, GCJEZY - Sluggan Bridge. We've not done a bad one up there though - if the weathers good it's magic! Have a wonderful time and watch out for Eagles, Osprey, Crossbills, Capercallie, Crested Tits and Red Squirrels ........ +Pharisee
Beware of Highland Nick's caches.... I've done a few of them and he's the only guy I know who can set caches that you have to walk uphill to get to and then up hill back again..... Seriously.... I've done some of those mentioned and they are well worth the effort. Quote Link to comment
