raxxal Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 I bought the Garmin USB to Serial Cable , connected it to the Colorado 400T, but the Colorado says that "This accessory is not supported" I changed the interface to Garmin Spanner, to Garmin Serial, etc, but the Colorado keeps saying the same thing: "This Accessory is not Supported." Per the Garmin Colorado FAQ at wikispaces.com step H11 says that the Colorado 400t supports this cable, this is not my case. Was this cable supported by the Colorado originally and not anymore? I have a couple applications that are looking for a GPS serial cable and not USB. Any idea any body? Quote
+g-o-cashers Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Interesting. It looks like this cable is no longer listed as a Colorado accessory as it was several weeks ago. I wonder if this support was removed in 2.4/2.51 with the Spanner support. I saw several reports back in Feb that this cable did work. Garmin Serial should be the setting to use with this cable. If the serial cable isn't supported any longer it isn't clear to me what the other Interface modes mean (I understood that they were supported only over the USB/serial interface). GO$Rs Quote
+Red90 Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Any idea any body? You can hook up with a USB cable and use Garmin's "Spanner" program to emulate a serial port or if you want more flexibility, Franson's GPSGate. Quote

Yes, I got this program Franson's GPSGate, but this is a program, it reads from the Colorado only, the serial cable is two way communication, it can send and receive. I am interested in sending commands to the Colorado. There are a bunch of them. Quote

GO$Rs I think the support for this cable has been removed as you said. I reinstalled 2.40 software, and I can see the NMEA sentences coming in and that's it! No Satellite info, etc. I cannot do anything else like reading the software version, sending commands to the Colorado, etc. Hopefully Garmin will enable some kind of serial cable support. Can you Garmin? Quote
gpsrb Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Hi, After talking with Garmin's support, they suggest me to buy that cable as an option to stream NMEA sentences. After bought it, I experiment several problems. One of than is when you plug the cable into the colorado unit, if you are using rechargeable battery it turns off the unit. Only with normal and very charged battery it will work, although it works using different serial speeds and for a little period of time (the battery discharges??). Well, I don't know if other users have experiment the same behavior. I'm pretty disappointed in buying that cable and also with colorado. I hope new firmware/software version will solve all these issues. GPSRB. Quote
