+ForsdykeFinders
I noticed on another thread a mention regarding the use of Google maps for navigation. I am off abroad on hols soon and it would be useful to be able to do this as I dont have a map of the area I am visiting. Does anyone know how to do this. I am currently running a Mio 350. +melmur
Assuming you have Memory Map. Get a google image of the area as big as possible on your screen. Press 'print screen', open your favourite image editing software and paste it in. Save it as a .tiff file, then open it in MM. Calibrate it by choosing 3 points and copying the lat/long info across from GE. Just add a placemark and zoom right in on GE to get an accurate position. Another way is to use software such as 'Google maps image downloader'... http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Othe...ownloader.shtml http://google-maps-image-downloader.uptodown.com/en/ but you have to pay for it and Google blocks it if you try to do images too large. +dino-irl
AFAIK that only works with Memory Map Navigator as the OS version doesn't allow the addition of your own maps. Quote Link to comment
+Dark_Faerie
I have google maps on my mobile which I used to find my first cache (then got a GPS). Unfortunately it requires a data connection and therefore could be extremely expensive to use abroad! I'd buy a map when I got there. I've used it as a Sat Nav when I had to go somewhere at short notice and it was really useful. Quote Link to comment
+The Boat People
If you have Microsoft Autoroute on your computer you can download Pocket Streets and export maps to your Mio . Using the push pin function you place the cache location onto the map and follow the arrow just as you would with Memory Map. It isn't as detailed but it does the job. We have used it many times when caching in other countries. Quote Link to comment
+ForsdykeFinders
Thanks for all the suggestions. I only have the OS version of MM but my licence does seem to allow map import so will give that a try. Quote Link to comment
+keehotee
Just to add - MM Navigator always used to be a freeby (it was the maps you paid for) - don't know if this is still the case..... Edited to add - it is - get it here Edited May 4, 2008 by keehotee Quote Link to comment

+ForsdykeFinders
The way to do this is to download the European Version. This works fine with your existing V5 OS licence. You then appear to be able to import TIFF files and do the necessary calibration. It can be downloaded from: http://www.memory-map.co.uk/dl_mm_europe_V5.htm Quote Link to comment
+melmur
Oops, sorry I should have said you need to get the European version in my post. Quote Link to comment

If you do a few screen grabs you could always put them together with Autostitch. It exports as a jpg, but you can convert it to a tif in Microsoft Paint or your favourite editor/converter.
