How are you transferring? Directly from MM? You may have more success copying the files using a card reader in Windows Explorer.

Yes - don't try to transfer it using ActiveSink (sic) - it'll take forever.

As Rutson says, transfer it directly to the card using a reader - just make sure you put it in the right folder on the card...

Yeah i tried using mm it was very slow i also tried coping the file directly onto the memory card direct still no joy what sort of card reader do you mean not being technically minded thanxs for prompt replies

Just a proprietary memory card (SD in your case) reader - plugs into a spare usb port on your pc - P*u^d74nd have got them on the shelves for £1 (yes ONE Pound!!!) at the moment.

Once the readers plugged in, slot in the card and your pc should pick it up as an external drive - then either "send map to pda" from Memory Map, and it'll give you the option to send to the card instead, or drag and drop from your Memory Map disc (or wherever on your hard drive you've got the maps saved) to the Memory-Map-OS/qct folder on the card - assuming you installed to the card and not the pda's main memory in the first place..........

Also some of the larger 1:50K maps need splitting, but that's another issue. :)

Are you sure? Never had any problem putting any of them onto cards....

I had that issue, not so much with copying the map over, but trying to open it when I needed it. Worked fine when split. :)

That's the one. It's to do with O/S (operating system, not Ordnance Survey :D ) file size limits.

It's documented all over the net. Only effects the largest maps fortunately.

I can honestly say it's never been a problem on mine.....Ipaq hx2490b, Windows Mobile 5.0, SanDisc 2Gb sd card (formatted FAT32), MM2004

As far as I can see, the problem happens when a map is more than about 300 mb. You can run maps of any size on your PC, but sections that youi download to your PDA have to obey that size limit, otherwise the map will transfer, and will be there, but MM on the PDA can't load it. I believe it's one of the bugs in MM, not the OS.

Another question I have - I'm running 4gb cards on PDAs fine, but I can't work out how to get it to recognise an 8gb card. My card reader won't handle it either. I think if I could get my card reader to handle it, I might be able to get the PDA to recognise it.

Presumably these are SDHC cards.

They use a different way of addressing the storage on the card, and your PC doesn't understand how to do it. Presumably, being newer, your PDA does know what to do.

Simple answer is to update your card reader. Cheaper answer is to search the Microsoft knowledgebase for SDHC and find the patch :) Aleternatively, use Google for "SDHC not recognised" or some such.

Oh, and there are also patches for some Windows Mobile platforms.

2.0 GB SanDisk SD card - MM2004 - no problem loading any of the maps into MM or transferring to the card....

No you won't or should not have the problems with your files here as you are only running one full region..

The problem seems to be the access time in swaping from one region to another. (Full Regions) that is. Seems to be the access times of the full regions. Takes too long and the prog crashes.. There are ways around it but they dont always work and a soft reboot is sometimes easier..

Hide overlay tracks especially if you have been on the road for some time.. These take up memory and slow the system down..

Sometimes I have found if you are in the overlap region and zoom in to the 1mile mag and change maps there is no crash..

i run TT, MM and Sonar all at the same time so I guess that does not help things..

Mio/2GBSD with 3 full regions and loads of other map portions.

Regards

Steve

Aaaah - but before I acquired the 1:25k maps I had six 1:50k's on the same card, and had no problems crossing from map 1 to map 2 when going from Exeter to Southampton, or when driving from Exeter up to York.....
