But not telling them has potential privacy issues. A legal compromise might be to use the recording as a source for an article, but not actually post the footage anywhere. You can film anyone in the US as long as there isn't a reasonable expectation of privacy. So almost anywhere where you would geocache, but not in say somebodys house. And you can post this anywhere with very few exceptions. This can be very different in other countries but almost anywhere you're good to do so if you blur their faces (which can also be more respectful). Setting up the camera, though, would be its own hassle as you would need to get permission, which is likely much harder than just getting permission for a geocache... 1 Quote
+Viajero Perdido Posted June 24 Posted June 24 How would a study measure the effect on people who catch on, and refuse to ever visit another cache by the hider? That's a significant behavior change! 1 Quote
+cerberus1 Posted June 24 Posted June 24 Cameras might work some spots, but the few we knew of in our game lands (the largest landowner...), had most removed or destroyed by hunters and hikers. Any place we think is cool had had someone there too. Unlike many states, no tax dollars go to our game lands. They run by hunter's licenses, oil n gas exploration, and harvesting of trees. Privacy is a biggie for me. If my niece has to tinkle, and some jack adze is taking photos of her, I'm gonna get ya... Quote

Nothing has soured my opinion of hunters anywhere near as much geocaching. Conservationists most of them are not. Quote
