Nice looking coin! Gonna have to get a couple. Thanks a Lot, now I've got that Song stuck in my Head!! ;)

And I don't even know the words :(

Here are the lyrics :)

by Gordon Lightfoot

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down

Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee

The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead

When the skies of November turn gloomy.

With a load of iron ore - 26,000 tons more

Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty

That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed

When the gales of November came early

The ship was the pride of the American side

Coming back from some mill in Wisconson

As the big freighters go it was bigger than most

With a crew and the Captain well seasoned.

Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms

When they left fully loaded for Cleveland

And later that night when the ships bell rang

Could it be the North Wind they'd been feeling.

The wind in the wires made a tattletale sound

And a wave broke over the railing

And every man knew, as the Captain did, too,

T'was the witch of November come stealing.

The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait

When the gales of November came slashing

When afternoon came it was freezing rain

In the face of a hurricane West Wind

When supper time came the old cook came on deck

Saying fellows it's too rough to feed ya

At 7PM a main hatchway caved in

He said fellas it's been good to know ya.

The Captain wired in he had water coming in

And the good ship and crew was in peril

And later that night when his lights went out of sight

Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Does anyone know where the love of God goes

When the words turn the minutes to hours

The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay

If they'd fifteen more miles behind her.

They might have split up or they might have capsized

They may have broke deep and took water

And all that remains is the faces and the names

Of the wives and the sons and the daughters.

Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings

In the ruins of her ice water mansion

Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams,

The islands and bays are for sportsmen.

And farther below Lake Ontario

Takes in what Lake Erie can send her

And the iron boats go as the mariners all know

With the gales of November remembered.

In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed

In the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral

The church bell chimed, 'til it rang 29 times

For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald.

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down

Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee

Superior, they say, never gives up her dead

When the gales of November come early.

Nice. Does anybody else remember the first (I think) MIGO seasonal coins that caused such a frenzy?

I have a Spring in my collection and those were the first ones that I recall causing a feeding frenzy because only 100 were made.

Back on topic - I may have to try and trade for one of these. I'll post my available trades in the pinned trading thread. Maybe some newer collectors would like to get an older coin in trade.

Got mine ordered.

You know things are good when Canadian Singers are being quoted!! :(

Now give me some Neil Young lyrics please.

Ask and ye shall receive!! This is one of my favorites

Old Man by Neil Young

Old man look at my life,

I'm a lot like you were.

Old man look at my life,

I'm a lot like you were.

Old man look at my life,

Twenty four

and there's so much more

Live alone in a paradise

That makes me think of two.

Love lost, such a cost,

Give me things

that don't get lost.

Like a coin that won't get tossed

Rolling home to you.

Old man take a look at my life

I'm a lot like you

I need someone to love me

the whole day through

Ah, one look in my eyes

and you can tell that's true.

Lullabies, look in your eyes,

Run around the same old town.

Doesn't mean that much to me

To mean that much to you.

I've been first and last

Look at how the time goes past.

But I'm all alone at last.

Rolling home to you.

Old man take a look at my life

I'm a lot like you

I need someone to love me

the whole day through

Ah, one look in my eyes

and you can tell that's true.

Old man look at my life,

I'm a lot like you were.

Old man look at my life,

I'm a lot like you were.

Now OT I got my coins ordered YIPEE!!!

Got a couple....spent time in Michigan near Traverse City ...right on the Lake (Empire MI) where this ship went down!

I hope you had a good time in Traverse City but you were quite a ways away from where the Edmund Fitzgerald went down. It happened November 10 1975 in Lake Superior, 17 miles from Whitefish Point...thats in the Upper Peninsula..... :)

I was raised on the St. Clair River and remember the Fitz very well. I have never fully recovered from the horror I felt when it sank. We were really shook. We felt like we knew those onboard from having waved at them as they passed us.

Several years afterward Jacque Cousteau came over on a boat to go out and explore the wreckage. We watched his ship sail past our house. It was very exciting and bittersweet. I remember waving and cheering them on. His helicopter was atop the ship and we were thrilled to death to see him pass. To this day I wonder if he was one of the folks watching us watching him as they moved down the river. (this was common, the river was not very wide near my house, the sailors would hang out and we would frequently see them looking at us while we looked at them, and it was also common to wave to the captain as they moved past. Then we would run in and call a house upriver so they could see it too.)

It remains a strong memory for me. I think about it a lot and have always wanted to travel to the site of the sinking.

Great coin and I will most certainly be getting one to commemorate this permanent memory.

Well, according to hubby I'm not allowed to purchase any more coins other than the clubs we belong to (and cut down to only one per club....) HOWEVER I'm pretty sure he will change his mind when he sees this! We were kids when this happened, but do remember. Will always remember. Mr. Kyk is very intrigued by all Great Lakes history, shipwrecks, lighthouses, etc., and MOST especially the Edmund Fitz. He has been to Whitefish Point and we are hoping to be able to go together very soon.

Now I wish he would hurry home so I can ask him to buy this coin!!!!!

Got mine in the mail I am so very pleased! it turned out well

FYI

I expect most familar with this ship know what the bell(s) with the number 29 on them represent. But for those that might not they represent the 29 Crew members that were lost when the ship sank (There were no survivors) The Bell from the ship was recovered in 1995 and is on display at the shipwreck muesum. Each year it is rung 29 times on the anniversary of the ship sinking as a tribute the the 29 lost men.

Yes those were some crazy days.... As I recall the price peaked with the fall pumpkin coin... Some of those sold on Ebay for over $300

Wonder what they are worth today
