+PyrateWench Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Haha... I was browsing through all the "Earth Day" green products that are being sold online at my work (not trying to advertise, so no links!) and I found this Set of 2 Stainless Steel Water Bottles..... GeoAddict - the first thing I thought was, "Oh, look! Giant Bison Tubes." Anyone else ever do that? See something completely mundane and somehow relate it to geocaching? I bet that's how lots of cache containers come about. Quote
+XopherN71 Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Yep... Just the other day at Wal Mart I happened to see some containers in the sporting goods section, waterproof even! Almost bought every one they had but they were about $6/piece and not real big. I'd say big enough for most point and shoot cameras. Deep down I know I'll probably still go buy one Then last week my wife came home from a dental convention with some goodies, I saw one and said 'Sweet, a cache container!' She sighed and said 'It's chapstick, let it go.' Quote
+meralgia Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 my husband gets tired of going to the grocery store with me. Inevitably I'll say, "let's buy this", and he'll ask why because it's not usually something we purchase. My response? "Because the container would make a great cache container!!" Quote

+Totem Clan Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 So how big is the neck on those 'Giaint Bison Tubes?' Quote
+Ed56 Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 (edited) Yep, of course! All my containers are homemade from recycled containers. I've used a Chap Stick and mostly I use stick deodorant containers or pill bottles. I made a micro from a fiber-tip marking pen.... cleaned it out, repainted it and added camouflage. Someone must have really liked it because it got muggled after 2 days. Edited April 22, 2008 by Ed56 Quote
+PyrateWench Posted April 22, 2008 Author Posted April 22, 2008 So how big is the neck on those 'Giaint Bison Tubes?' Just says: *(1) Blue 20-1/5oz water bottle *(1) Red 20-1/5oz water bottle *Measure approx. 2-13/16" in diameter x 8-1/2"H each I don't think they'd make decent containers because of the small opening, but it looks a lot like the micro tubes. And here I thought that it was normal to see caching possibilities in everything!! Quote
+TeamGumbo Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 I catch myself watching a TV show or a movie and thinking, "Dang that would be a cool place for a cache." Quote
+Taoiseach Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I like it when one of the reporters on the local news is standing near a cache location when they're doing their story My favourite was when one of them was doing the story right near Tiger Lookout (I'm originally from Windsor, and I see these two guys just sort of standing there waiting - I wondered if they were trying to wait for her to leave (or at least get off the air) to try to retrieve the cache But yea - I see cache containers everywhere as ell I was on the bench one game just after a shift where I blocked three shots - One of them hit right in the half inch between the top of my skate and the bottom of my shin pad I was walking around behind the bench walkin' it off when I saw a broken composite stick in the garbage - I thought I should (and I'm still planning to do this) take the shaft, cut it off so that it's smooth and plug the ends - Making a cache out of a broken stick shaft Be a great cache to put behind an arena or something Quote
+Snoogans Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Anyone else ever do that? Funny story. Not quite on topic..... but relevant to that container. They suck for anything but fuel.... and possibly geocaching. NEVER ever drink vodka from one.... long story.... Anyhoo, I buried one of those in the recess valley in the Sierra backcountry over 18 years ago. It has never leaked in all that time. The last time I visited that spot was about 4 years ago and it was STILL dry. It's a personal cache. One of many that I had wayyy before geocaching came along. Quote
gonegeofishing Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I can look at a doorknob and it can turn into a geocache. I work with a bunch of engineers for a company that makes custom industrial controllers and some of them geocache. Light sensors, motion sensors, microswitches, all the toys a geogeek could want. So far none of us have has been raiding the stock room. I think. It probably is just a matter of time. Quote
+ThePetersTrio Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 (edited) I work in a health department and the specimen containers (unused of course) are perfect for caching. Or so I've been told.... Edited April 23, 2008 by ThePetersTrio Quote
+hairball45 Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Huh... I found a specimen container in a cache once, but I didn't think of recycling it as a micro, I just got sort of yukked out. Couldn't tell if it was new or used.... Anyway, every sealable container looks like a cache container, and every hollow tree, park bench, lamppost, stand of trees, wooden bridge over a creek, guard rail, oh you get the idea, looks like a hiding spot. hairball Quote

Oh, dear goodness, say it isn't so!!! I also work in the health field, and the diabetes test strip cases are wonderful--my favorite brand are black and water tight. +PyrateWench Posted April 23, 2008 Author Posted April 23, 2008 along the obsession line... Someone at my work put a cache at the end of the street at a dead end. Every morning and every evening as I'm passing by, I always peer down the end of the road to see if any cars are parked by the cache... just in case Quote
