+GnOArmyChicks Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 my partner and i are fairly new to caching, but we have been having a blast, both hunting and hiding. while we were out doing some upgrading on one of our hides today, it occured to us that we don't really know what to do with the old log. we don't want to just throw it away, since folks went to the trouble to sign it and all. so i guess this question is to folks who may have been hiding caches for a while. what do you do with your old logs? thanks for any advice Quote

I'd probably throw them out after awhile but I like to make handmade logbooks so I keep them to look at from time to time. Quote
+meralgia Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 (edited) I like to make handmade logbooks so I keep them to look at from time to time. Those look VERY nice! So far, mine are in a pile. I hope to get a little time to lay the pages out, scan them, add them to the gallery (of the archived cache), and then put them in my scrapbook. One of the logs got so soaked that the names are simply colorful smears, so I may just toss that one. Edited April 21, 2008 by meralgia Quote
+zoltig Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 I save mine. They really don't take up much room and sometimes the onsite notes from cachers are quite a kick to (re)read. Micro logs aren't worth much regarding reading value. Quote
+Renegade Knight Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 ...so i guess this question is to folks who may have been hiding caches for a while. what do you do with your old logs?... First I read them. Then throw them in a caching drawer where they collect dust waiting for the day I can scan them and post them on the cache page. Quote
GPS-Hermit Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 It['s is your Cache and your log - do whatever make you caching experiece have quality. I have never had a cacher that has signed the log ask me anything about the written log. I have lost several to animal and converted some to ammo boxes they stand both weather and animals much better. Quote
+GeoWomyn_SF_CA Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 I turn mine into art projects for travel bugs. I am making one now to take to GeoWoodstock this year Quote
+ShowStop Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 If you like to track the history, take a picture of the log and post it on the cache page. Then throw away the log. Quote
+gof1 Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 (edited) Sadly I have not had any log books make it back to the house. I have had a couple of soggy wads of paper that used to be logs, but didn't bring them home. Most of the though are still in use. edit-I was going to put in the missing space and the missing letter M but the heck with it. +Zolgar Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 I had an interesting thought for them.. Not something I could do as I lack the know-how/stuff.. But take a decent number of old log books, shred them and make paper from them, to use as a log book. *shrug* My insanity. Quote
+briansnat Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 I dunno. If anybody comes up with something good let me know... Quote
+tallglenn Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Hmmm... doesn't anybuddy check the signatures against the on-line logs? I noticed a trend where a local cacher gets "confused" when he finds caches with similar names. He signs the log for "FunCache 1" then a week or so later logs online for "FunCache 2" that he found it last week but forgot to log it online. I have yet to hit the Delete button, but next time I see him I am going to make a little joke about his absentmindedness. I did delete a few non-signature logs recently and got one IRATE reply, the others never replied. Quote
+Smokey Bear Collector Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Recycle or reuse for another purpose...I recycle them. Quote
+PJPeters Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 As long as there's room in the cache container, I'll leave 'em in. I love looking through old log books to see who's found it, what they said, etc. Shame most people (me too, often) just scribble their name in them anymore. Quote
+Lotho Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 I like to keep them with my other caching stuff. Quote
+Jennifer&Dean Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 We too have the box of old logbooks. It is kinda fun to look through them. -J Quote
+jrope Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Looking through the old log book after I replace it is interesting and part of the fun. If I find an interesting comment I scan it and post it online. After that I send them to the round file for long term storage. Quote
