I am looking at starting a geocoin collection. I am VERY new to this geocoin thing, only having a few.

 

When looking at coins, I have seen a variety of metals, and difference enamel finishes.

 

Is there a type of metal or finish that are more popular, or is is more about the coin design and graphics?

I tend to prefer gold, but really it depends on the coin. You're right in saying it is more about the coin design and the graphics.

it's more about the coin. When I had my coin made I wasn't a fan of the antiques once I saw my samples I went with the antiques as they showed the detail better. other coins look better in shiny metal

Personally, I'm a black nickel or copper kind of guy. I also like the antique gold metal. Black nickel isn't so good with the translucents though.

Good designs are what have made me pay big money. A coin you can look at and go wow! I mean...WOW!

I personally like the simple round coins.

 

The best advice would be to collect what kind of finishes YOU like.

So you can see that if you're collecting coins for YOUR collection you should only purchase those that you like. Leave the ones that everyone likes for their own collections.
