Power Caching

Recommended Posts

I remember marveling at Team Alamo's tremendous amount of finds- I think about 8k back in '05.

Now I see they are on "Vacation W/ no Internet" and I thought at first they must be way burnt out on caching but inner voice says they are getting the caches on the Moon right now and will be back shortly.

What is your best Power Caching Day?

What is your best Power Caching Day?

I went with an ex GF caching one day on our way up to the North Ga mountains, found a lot of caches, and we had a GREAT time finding them. We got caught in the rain, we sang songs, we acted up, we changed plans mid-afternoon, we just had a blast.

That was a pretty good day.

I thought that I was supposed to post a number.

Never mind!! I've never had a "best" day geocaching.

On one of my better "power caching" days a friend and I took a 15 mile mountain bike ride that involved about 1100 feet of elevation gain. Well, truth be told, we were walking the bikes for quite a lot of the uphill. I think we found 2 caches and hid one. Climbed an old fire tower on top of the mountain to take some pictures and admire the view. Pretty much killed ourselves physically, but it was a great time. At the end of the day, I had absolutely no power left. :P

I did that trip on a bike also, though it was to grab a predecessor cache at the top of the little hill. When I found your fine cache, I walked up on the steep side.

Yes, it was a lot of work pushing the bike up the mountain. But I will never in my life have another ride DOWN a mountain to match that one.

WHEEEEEEEEEE!

There are all different kinds of powercaching, but having fun is the motivation that powers them all.

The most caches I've found in a day is 9 or 11 or something like that. I don't keep track of how many caches I find but I do keep memories of the caches I do find. BTW, what is Team Alamo.

It's Team Cotati + about 26,000 caches found, more or less approximately.

One of our favorite days caching was a similar experience on that mountain. We didn't have bikes and spent too much time on another cache so we never made it to the one you hid. I climbed that firetower too and you can imagine the sounds on a windy day.

Now that Molly's foot is getting better were starting to look forward to returning.

Wow this is a tough one...

Best... Not sure but a couple stand out for sure.

Went on a wild ride through Rockledge & Ventura FL with the Jailbirds several times both more fun than should be allowed - numbers I don't remember probably 10 or so caches.

Spent the day after Thanksgiving in VA Beach, VA caching with family about 8 of us or so and went into swamps, beautiful parks with all the leaves turning and braved the 20 degrees with 15MPH + winds. Onlookers at MT Trashmore must have got a laugh as we did a most cool cache (Dead Reckoning) that had us wondering all over the place - 8+ people and Bailey the GeoDog (Cream Standard Poodle) - all in a line following each step of instruction - absolutely hilarious.

Caching in Maryland this past fall with Daughter, Son-In-Law and Granddaughter (while visiting for her first Birthday) - I don't know how to describe it being together caching in the foot hills - Breath taking doesn't quite do it.

Went on a run with Clan Riffster & Jailbirds through the Big Little Econ in Oveido FL the day was filled with mud, slime, snakes, spiders, walking across palm trees over fast moving water and climbing around and up trees to retrieve caches. It may have only been a couple miles round trip but it took all day.

The day we brought Clan Riffster, Jailbirds & FLnativefly into Orlando to do some caching - Started in Oviedo FL and cached in the rain for hours and then headed into Orlando for some of the real cool ones. Bridges over Fern Creek being one that stands out - we explored it and surrounding area for hours with Clan Riffster and then he did a couple of our hides (the others had parted by then). We got to sit back and watch as Crocodile Riffster (it's a bit like bringing Crocodile Dundee into the big city only it was Riffster and the city was Orlando) go through the process all the way to success.

Then there was the day we (just the wife and I) went into downtown Orlando and power cached I don't remember how many we got but it was like 10 or so... Seems the few DNFs were the most fun..

Oh yeah, there was a weekend we attempted to go to a Meet and Great in Lakeland Fl but were way to late - so we (me & my better half) decided what the heck we'd cache our way there and back and did 20 or maybe slightly over when an officer requested for our safety we stop politely pointing out it was very dark and we were on a dangerous roadway - heck I hadn't noticed it was dark and here it was almost 10pm...

Then there's the UCF run with the Clan Riffsters in the rain (hum every time we cache with them it rains...) This time we were stopped by officers for looking for a cache in a parking garage (Kramer where did you park the car) but they were nice and tried to help using their flashlights - we actually had to stop them from taking stuff apart... Ah us cachers don't chance destruction of property there officer... LOL We did a Web cache too to escape the rain and wrapped up with about 10 caches...

This past weekend our first CITO event in the Big Little Econ where we met a lot of folks that we could match faces with names and even met a family from France and did a few caches with them... My wife found a cache while we were picking up trash didn't even have GPSr's on, we found Sharks?? (you must under stand this is in the middle of the state not many sharks venture this far inland especially on land) However, they did win our team Most Unusual trash find. Later that same day Clan Riffster & the Jailbirds followed us back into Orlando where we watched as they did our caches and beta tested a new one coming out in about a week or less..

Nope can't chance saying we've had our best day yet :)

Not sure we ever will be able to either.

Heck I can't even say which is better doing caches or watching others do yours???

What I do know is it's a blast all the time.

To us It's all about the journey and the friends you make along the way that enrich the experience.

Cache On!

One of my best days was Aug 22, 2007 in Reno. We went there to celebrate my 60th birthday on the 23rd (to get out of town for it) we had been out almost every day that week and decided to spend that day caching instead of losing money at the casinos. The caches we did that day were just awesome! We only did 7 that day but the views were the best of my caching days for sure. I know I would have never gone to the area and saw what I saw with out caching.

Excert from log:

Was in Reno for a weeks vacation and some caching. This was a wonderful cache with a GREAT view. Man what a view I would have liked to go back when it was dark and see all the lights what a sight that would have been. This is worth caching while in Reno even if this was the only cache you search for. Once there we sat there for about 30 minutes taking pictures and admiring the view it was a real clear day.

I would like to invite Team Alamo to an event we are having here in Wisconsin, West Bend $1000.00 Cache Ba$h and can possibly comp them a room while they are here. However, when I put in their team name, I got another team with only 38 finds? Anybody know how to get a hold of them or if that is the same team?

Last week while out training EMC of Northridge California on how to cache faster  , we found 100 caches in a very casual day of geocaching.

A great day? Every day geocaching is a great day! :)

I heard she caches faster when she doesn't fall asleep in the back of the Jeep. ;)

Our average daytime find count is somewhere around 60 finds.

We usually have a hundred or so on our list/route.

I believe our daytime best is 143 or so.

...and we are honest about it.

We log our DNF's. We quit at dark/sunset.

We don't log the entire rest of the city just because we drove thru.....lol :drama::D

I've had a lot of great "power caching" days with all of my caching buddies. One of my favorites was when Windrose and I headed out to do the CSI: series here in Michigan. We did 7 of the 12 CSI caches that day; driving my non-Jeep up a "mountain" (proving the wheels WILL stay on terra firma even when the slope is vertical), down winding narrow trails with no room to turn around (I MADE room), and finally getting lost in the woods in the dark (60' from the car.. hey, I said it was DARK!). The entire series took us 3 days, 842 miles and 2 different vehicles, and was some of the most FUN caching I've ever had!

(and yes, I've learned that valuable lesson: MARK THE CAR!)

My best day as a team with one or two other geocachers: 40

My best day as the only geocacher: 25

It's been a while since I returned to catch up on this thread. I've had a few 'better' days than the 40 from last April...including a 50, a 60 and most recently an 84.

So Team Alamo is just a group of geocachers. I still don't get the Team Alamo and Power Caching connection.

TeamAlamo, now Alamogul, is 2 people. A husband and wife. The wife has found a whopping 2 caches on her own.

I've cached with him. He eats, drinks and breathes geocaches. I don't believe he thinks about anything else from the time he wakes up, until he falls asleep. Oh wait. He doesn't sleep.
