cracked cork
On April 02, I let the webUpdater download and install software into my 60CX and it hasnt been right since. This is what was installed. Unit software 3.60 GPS SW 3.00 I wrote to Garmin yesterday and they said I SHOULD have unit software 3.00 NOT 3.60 GPS SW 2.90 NOT 3.00 Garmins current update and download page shows (for 60CX) Unit software 3.60 NOT 3.00 LIKE TECH SUPPORT SAID GPS SW 2.90 Does anyone know what the hell is going on? Why would webUpdater install the wrong software? Why is there a disagreement between the techies and their own support page info? If he made a typo it sure has my feathers ruffled. I just got off the phone with Garmin and they told me the CURRENT software is. (for 60CX) Software Ver. 3.60 GPS SW Ver. 3.00 He said the tech that emailed me is incorrect and the website Update and download page still shows GPS SW ver 2.90 which is OUTDATED......... he said he didnt know why it has NOT been changed to ver 3.00. No wonder all the confusion! Quote Link to comment
+XopherN71
Just manually download and install it. Garmin is second to none with their devices. I'm not brand loyal, but it's all I will buy until something else proves better. I guess if you had read it more carefully you would have seen I did download and install it a couple weeks ago. Thats when all my problems started. I own two Garmins and agree that they are great units. Quote Link to comment
+XopherN71
I did read your post, you used the web updater... If you had carefully read my post I said to download it and install it (in other words, do not use the web updater - manually download and install it). On April 02, I let the webUpdater download and install software into my 60CX Here's the list: http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection....ct=010-00421-00 I prefer this method as I don't trust other sources to update my devices if I can help it. What's "not right" about it? There was a thread about this just recently, and I believe a hard reset cured it. Just read back a few days in the forum, and you'll hit the thread. If you do wind up resetting, remove your SD card first, and use Mapsource or EasyGPS to copy off any waypoints and tracks from your GPSr to your PC. Short version, according to the phone tech person this morning. He said "GPS SW Ver 2.90 that is listed on the download page is NOT CORRECT it should be Ver 3.00". He is going to try and get the website updated to reflect the correct software. So even if I were to manually download it it would still be wrong. In this case only the webupdater gives you the correct software. Quote Link to comment
cracked cork
I just got this email from Garmin. "Thank you for contacting Garmin International. That is confusing, however you do have the correct and most up to day software. I have downloaded to my 60CSx using the same process and have the 3.0 chipset and the 3.60 software, I will contact our webmaster to update the information on the Garmin website." +GOT GPS?
I am unable to go back to Chipset type G 2.90 from version 3.00, so I need to do a full reset on my 60CSx, but I cannot find anywhere, how to do the reset. Quote Link to comment
cracked cork
I am unable to go back to Chipset type G 2.90 from version 3.00, so I need to do a full reset on my 60CSx, but I cannot find anywhere, how to do the reset. THIS IS DIRECT FROM GARMIN Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I am happy to help you with this. It appears that the unit has gotten some corrupt data in it so to correct this I would suggest doing a hard reset on the unit. This will clear out all data in the unit and reset it to factory defaults and settings. However, you will lose all user information such as Waypoints, tracks, and routes that you have stored in your unit. If you wish to save this information before resetting your unit, you can save it to your computer using a PC interface cable and your Mapsource software. Following are instructions on how to perform a Master Reset on your unit: -With the unit turned off, press and hold the follow buttons: PAGE + ENTER, then press and release the POWER. The unit will power up asking if you want to release all user data. Select yes and the unit will be reset. After the master reset please place your unit outside so that it has a clear view of the sky for 25 to 30 minutes so that the unit can acquire new almanac data. I would also suggest updating your unit's operating system using the link below. http://www.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp Quote Link to comment

+EraSeek
I have been holding off for some time downloading the 3.00 chipset revision because the download page has not shown what it does, and remained at 2.90. Now I see the download page no longer shows the chipset version at all, just the software version. Thus I went ahead and webupdated to 3.00 and figured I'd fly blind. Pull my card, left the browser up, and did the webupdate. Restarted the gps, went outside and fired it up, all seems well. Right date, time and everything so far. I would still like to know what the update is for. Quote Link to comment
Pacific NW
I also did the update via the Web Updater and my 60Cx seemed to take a while longer to get locked in to the satellites. I just left it near a window for about an hour or so and then it looked to be fine. I, too, am curious what the 3.00 update did... Quote Link to comment
+EraSeek
Actually mine seems to lock on quicker now. Other than that no difference that I can see. Quote Link to comment
+EraSeek
Something else I noticed today. On my 60cx the epe has always been way conservative and hardly moves much at all. It usually shows about 23 to 18 and the lowest ever would be around 14. Today it went down to 9' and hung around that, and then on the way home from work it was around 11' for awhile. It was nice to see it actually move for once. Quote Link to comment
+whitecrow
My 60Cx's epe at home is usually 17- 22, the last few days it's 60 -70 ?????? Quote Link to comment
