Do you mean you would like to run a Pocket Query that would only select handicap friendly caches? If so, when you define your PC you can select what attributes to include and exclude in the query. In your case you would select the wheelchair for handicap plus anything else you desire. You also can define the terrain which you would probably select as a 1.

Not sure where you are located nor how many actually log their caches in the http://www.handicaching.com/

 

Most folks key off the terrain - I'd say any thing 1.5 or less should be accessible - most always assistance for the grab will be needed unless noted otherwise.

 

Because I grew up with my mother being fully devoted to working with disabled I try to make my Caches accessible and include http://www.handicaching.com/ info. But that's simply not always possible.

 

I know from experience of taking handicap students to Disney here in Florida along with many other attractions and summer camps that one shouldn't underestimate their abilities and think GeoCaching would be a lot of fun. Might not be able to do alone but then Geocaching alone probably isn't a good idea these days anyway.

This is a hard question to answer. By theory a terrain rating of one star should be accessible. A lot depends on the individual and their limitations. Ask local cachers for recommendations. They know what caches they have been to are like and if they know what your moms limitations are they can tell you which ones she is likely to be able to get to.

 

I had a thought about some of these situations. If you have a group of caching friends that you trust to recommend caches for you mom you can set up an email addy just for the purpose. As they find caches they think she would like they can email the GC# to that address.

Handicap is a broad generic term. Does your Mom use a walker or a wheelchair? Is she handicapped under the definition of the CNIB? Heck, they even have braille on drive up banking machines.

 

My suggestion would be to research each and every cache you would like to take a handicapped person along on, and if in doubt, e-mail the owner for clarification.

Most caching communities have not only public bookmarks for handicapped friendly caches, but also bookmarks for caches that are listed as difficulty 1 when they are obviously not handicapped accessible. If you find a few difficulty 1 rated caches in your area I'd look to the right side of the cache page and see if bookmarks are listed for handicapped caches or a list of caches that are incorrectly marked as handicapped accessible.

 

Your local caching group can help you out a lot here as well.
