+WRITE SHOP ROBERT Posted April 11, 2008 Author Posted April 11, 2008 You know, I was just working on replying the those who are "still waiting", but I just spent 1/2 hour getting only part way into it. I've already spent many hours trying to explaine my point of view, and it has become clear to me that we simply do not have the same opinions, and there is no way I can think of to make my opinion understood. I'm pretty sure I can understand the viewpoint of the "go play elsewhere" crowd, I just do not agree that that is the best way to communicate in a community, whatever the issue or complaint. As I said in my OP... ------------------------------------------ "That's not being realistic." and That "May not be the best response." ------------------------------------------ As a simple example, sometimes when I'm driving down the road on a Sunday and chatting with the other drivers on the CB, I'll mention that "I'd rather be watching the race, but they always seem to make me work on Sundays". There will almost always be some wise guy who will pipe in and say "They can't make you do anything you don't want to do", implying that I could always quit my job if I want to watch the race. "That's not being realistic.". Just as it is not realistic to tell people to go play elsewhere if there is any aspect of the rules they don't agree with. Going elsewhere would not allow the person to even be allowed to play on the same level anymore, therefore that is an unrealistic solution, just as it would be an unrealistic solution to quit a job just so you could watch a race. ------------------------------------------------- From the decision makers: "We're sorry you do not understand our decision, but it is final, and we will not explain it any further. We hope you are still able to enjoy the game" or From the community: "Man, that bites, I don't understand the rule either. I hope it works out for you, and you're able to keep playing" May be better answers ------------------------------------------------- It's clear that I will not be able to explain my opinions to those who do not agree in such a way that they will understand. We will just have to agree that we do not agree and we do not understand each other. I do not have a desk in a house with a computer on it, i actually have to make quite an effort even to get to internet access, and the little time I get with it is too valuable to me for it to be spent repeatedly trying to explain to those who have a completely different mindset and view on life. There, now you have another hour of my time(yeah, I'm an idiot who took that long to write this) BTW, thanks for all the accusatory, insulting and bullying replies that were off the topic, and directed at myself. As you will see, I have not returned any of those. Good day, and happy caching. I've asked more than once to please close the topic, as it has been clear for some time that there will not be any resolutions to the misunderstanding. I will not be adding anything alse to this thread, but I don't doubt that some will add something before they close it. Please close this thread. Thank you.
+Ry and Ny Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 (edited) Not sure why WSR keeps dancing around answering the question, but I have 2 things to say: 1. RK *did* answer the question and mtn-man doesn't get it apparently. 2. I'm not sure what the criteria here are for getting moderation priveleges, but every last other place that I am and have been a moderator, baiting for argumentative responses has never been one of them. Now, as this continues and the moderation here continues to bait WSR while refusing to close the topic, would anyone else care to bet on who gets the "you need to stop contributing to this topic" email or the forum suspension? You have to realize that for the last week or so, it's been thread after thread bashing TPTB, the reviewers, and the mods. Naturally, they are going to get a little tired of it after a while and push back. Edited April 11, 2008 by sbell111

You have to realize that for the last week or so, it's been thread after thread bashing TPTB, the reviewers, and the mods. Naturally, they are going to get a little tired of it after a while and push back. I absolutely did get it. The point I was making is that for some people, they will not take no for an answer. most The is nothing you can say to make them happy when they are angry about something. WSR is somewhat getting that, but continues to dance around the questions asked. The ultimate answer is that there is pretty much nothing you can say to people when they get wound up. I was genuinely hoping something magical would come from WSR (not baiting), but did not expect it or get it (for reasons stated above and below). So what do you tell them? Same thing you told them last time, and the time before or like this sites key players do don't say much at all to anyone. Others will dig up the old post and say "it hasn't changed". Yes, I knew that. Yes, RK was right. My goal was to help people understand that when we as moderators say... "We're sorry you do not understand our decision, but it is final, and we will not explain it any further. We hope you are still able to enjoy the game"... and then close a topic, it isn't to stifle discussion. It is because at that point it is a final decision for that time period and that the discussion at that point is pointless and only causes angst and anger. Anger leads to forum violations many times, which causes actions that we really wish we would not have to take. That is why we close topics and ask people to move on. Most do. We appreciate that and most understand at times we must just agree to disagree. Topic closed. Have a good weekend, and I hope you go score some smileys.
