+M0zez Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Hi Guys n Gals After watching the Gadget Show last night and seeing the Colorado in action, the presenter experienced the same malfunction as we do. i.e. the device shows my destination is behind me (180d) both the arrow to destination and the line to, yet the distance decreases walking in the opposite direction. This happens in approx 80 to 90% of my usage. I have tried Track Up, North Up and it makes no difference. I called Garmin Tech Support this morning, usually they are very helpful but on this occasion no help at all, I am sure I was given a scripted response which went: “We are aware of the problem and are currently working on it”, that was it, I asked if their was any indication of a patch or firmware release date, the answer “We are aware of the problem and are currently working on it”. I mentioned to the op. this pretty much makes my device useless, he disagreed. It was a very frosty call, I got the impression the op was on the defensive from word go. I am really surprised at Garmin’s stance, it offers it customers in this case absolutely no reassurance that they are dealing with it and I feel that I have been sold a rushed to market, unfinished and in my case useless product at least 80 to 90% of the time. I wonder if there is any focus or organised groups that work with Garmin that I can approach, I certainly do not want to sit back and wait until Garmin decide to get of its backside and rectify the problem. I have had the device for over a month so cannot return it to point of sale, can anyone suggest a course of action? Look forward to hearing other Colorado user’s experiences, many thanks, M0zez Quote
+keehotee Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 (edited) In all fairness to the bloke on the other end of the 'phone, I very much doubt he was the one who was working on the problem - or even in the same country.....and so he probably couldn't have told you any more than he did. Seeing where you live, you could almost have walked round and asked them face to face [][] Edited April 8, 2008 by keehotee Quote

Look forward to hearing other Colorado user’s experiences, many thanks, M0zez Mine is fine!! I've upgraded to the latest firmware. I suspect the Gadget show one had a earlier version. What is yours using? I think the latest is 2.40. Anyhow... re the pointing problem. Hope I'm not telling something you already know but...... If you have the compass turned on it has to be calibrated (need to do this when you change batteries too). Without calibration in can point incorrectly. Also need to hold it level when the compas is on. If you leave the compass off you have to be moving to get a reading - but this applies to most Garmin GPS's with electronic compasses. A poor satellite lock will also cause the map to swing so check what accuracy you are getting. With WAAS enabled mine will get 6 feet. Chris Quote
+The Hungry Caterpillars Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Just to say I have the same problem with mine regardless of satellite reception or compass calibration. I have the newest upgrade already I also gather that there are two different chipsets in this model so an upgrade for one may well not correct problems for the other? As for the comment being rushed to market is an understatement. I feel as if I have been handed a gps for beta testing because that is what we are actually doing Quote
+third-degree-witch Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 DONT buy a Colorado......they are pants...wait till they actually work Quote
+Gushoneybun Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Mine is great. The only issue I have had is that on a couple of occasions it will not navigate to the next cache a quick reset and its fine I have found about 50 caches, with it. I am talking to Garmin about it and I think its a software issue, they are fine to deal with, all via email. Quote
+The Hungry Caterpillars Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 With all due respect I feel as does third degree witch that you wait some time before buying so that the glitches can be sorted. Quote
+rodz Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 It may be worth upgrading your firmware to the latest Colorado 300 beta Version 2.51. There is also a similar one if you have the 400. Being beta it doesn't install via the WebUpdater software. I used mine today after upgrading and performance seems better in the Geocaching profile. Still had two DNFs though.... Almost time to sell the 60 csx! There is a comprehensive thread here in the GPS Units and Software section of the forums. The links in the first post are particularly informative. Quote
