+russellvt
I noticed while browsing some of mw own website referral stats that caches link-out with a http://geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=XXXXXXX URL, yet that URL breaks when it is used/followed and comes up as an "Unpublished" cache (even with a valid GUID). Simply adding the "www" to the hostname fixes it (ie. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...x?guid=XXXXXXX). Note: neither one of the above links will work, but are there as example. But this begs the question, should the host by fixed or should the referring URLs (reverse DNS?) be fixed? Link to comment
+ShowStop
The GC.com site is supposed to fix the URL and add the www to the address, but sometimes their host process breaks and the links don't function properly without the www. Any referral links to the site are best served with the complete www.geocaching.com URL to avoid issues. Edited April 7, 2008 by ShowStop Link to comment
+Yossarian
They have their webservers configured to redirect geocaching.com urls to www.geocaching.com ones but for some reason they don't have them configured to pass the query parameters (the part after the question mark) from the old url to the new one. So for instance http://geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.a...5f-944c6b366dfc becomes http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx Where are you seeing urls without the www? Link to comment
