Strong box cache

This may have been covered before but I couldn't find it.

What about a large anchored cache with a combination lock.

If someone stumbles upon it they can't do anything with it without the combination (listed on the cache page).

Method of anchor can only be accessed from inside the box

 

Any thought?

I have read about similar caches with the difference that it is a multi where you get the combination from the preceeding stages, with the locked box being the final.

Sounds to me like your idea will be ok.

In a high muggle are I would think that such a container may attract too much attention.

There are at least two near here that call themselves Travel Bug Hotels. They are in plain sight, and are basically locked boxes strapped to utility poles and painted to look like official utility boxes. They're probably invisible to the average pedestrian; just a plain grey box strapped to a pole, just like millions of other plain grey boxes strapped to other poles. The lock is a simple outdoor rated combination lock, and the combination is in the description.

This one is a free standing safe under a magnolia tree in an office parking lot. Not well hidden, but not exactly out in the open. You have to have the puzzle components to figure out the combo. Really cool cache, and the biggest one I've found.

You can get the same effect by fitting a waterproof combination lock to a standard ammo can. Conventional strong boxes may not like the great outdoor experience.

I think it would pique the interest of nearly anybody who accidentally discovers it and someone is bound to try to get inside to see what is there. If someone wants to get inside badly enough he will.

I just put out a "strong" box this last weekend - lugged it about a quarter mile out into the woods. Its one of those pick up truck tool boxes and I added a combo lock to it. We'll see how it goes.

The reason for the strong box approach is mainly to kid proof it in a local park. Several caches are MIA from there.
