What would you spend your money on if geocoins didn't exist?

Well, I hope this isn't too selfish...I'd probably take Kaleb (KAboom) on a nice long trip. Kaleb has had a rough life, not one many of us would have wanted...and he's struggled through as best he can (sure, he's had his share of troubles, but try living w/o any real adult supervision since 6 yrs old), he's never had a chance to really LIVE!

Kaleb loves going caching (unless he wants to do something like hang with his friends...then he acts like it's murder to go with us...lol), so I'd spend a whole summer taking him from state to state, country to country searching out caches and adventures. Kaleb would learn much from this by learning other cultures, converting money, learning metric etc, but the learning would be so fun, he'd actually enjoy it! My travels would take me out to my friends in SWEDEN, Canada, Mexico, Spain, France and everywhere caching friends and caching adventures would be!

Kaleb deserves better than I've been able to give him! Still, the coins he's been gifted or I've bought for him really cheers him up...so please, never stop making them!

Doesn't sound selfish at all and I hope you and Kaleb can some day do this together. Kaleb has the best because he has your love and there is nothing better. As I have been told everything else is just sprinkles and that is what I would spend my money on if I wasn't spending it on coins. Something else for kids.

What would I buy if I weren't buying coins... The first thing that came to mind was a new Christmas tree. Why on earth would you buy that first you might ask? Read my post below from the Christmas tree thread and you will figure it out I'm sure!! LOL I would have thrown that tree straight out the door and gone and bought a new one!!

There is a story behind my tree that I want to tell before posting the picture.

I swore I would never have an artificial one but a few years ago my dog Pepper decided to use the tree as his own indoor personal urinal. The next year I went artificial. I was really getting stressed out last week working on cleaning the house and getting ready for the holidays. I was days behind my schedule and only started on the tree late last week. Tom's family dinner was Saturday and mine was yesterday. I am decompressing now so I can laugh at what happened. This is basically what I wrote in an email to a friend Friday.

"The d@mn tree...I have two artifical ones and brought up the branches of the one closest to the basement door and fluffed them out. Then started to try to put them in the trunk. Wrong trunk. Go find the other one. Then put the branches in and discover I'm one layer short. Go get first trunk and bring up other tree branches and fluff them out. Throw first tree down the basement stairs. Get the lower part done and start to work on the top. 2 pieces break (one of them the very top piece) and I am 6" short so the metal rod shows. The pieces of the other tree don't fit this one so out comes the duct tape. Those two pieces had better last until that tree comes down. I bet it took 6 hours and the stupid thing isn't yet decorated....."

Now fast forward to yesterday. Not decorated like I would like but I ran out of time so I was taking pictures of it for this post. The top falls off. I reattached it. During the dinner we heard a noise and again it fell off. I took the offending piece off and now the tree is VERY flat topped. I had an angel sitting on the bookshelves that I thought might fix the situation. There is now an angel on the top of tree and we are praying that she stays there until the tree comes down. At least it stayed together while we opened the gifts!!!

So now you know why I would buy a new artificial Christmas tree!!!:laughing::laughing:

With the money, I would like to go for a trip, in ancient times!

No, I do not mean a time travel, but I would love to visit the places the 7 wonders of the ancient world were! Ok, I live in one of the places! Colossus was in Rhodes!

Hmm...is it safe to go

Well I have stopped spending money on geocoins, for the most part, so I decided to invest in a better digital camera so I can take photos of places I cache and people I meet. Having a clear vivid reminder of something special is well worth it to me.

Well, people that know me know that I have 2 obsessions;

Geocoins AND Chocolate.

So if I hadn't spent all the money that I did on geocoins it would have been spent on chocolate....mmm yummy delicious, melt in your mouth CHOCOLATE! So it IS a good thing that I am a geocoin addict because I probably would probably weigh a lot more than I do right now.

Now if someone would only come up with a chocolate geocoin, non trackable preferably  , then I would be in heaven!!!

Here's another idea I've always dreamed of and might be able to afford if not afflicted with this addiction...open my own Adventure Caching Tour Guide Services!

I'd move out to Vegas (love the mountains and landscapes here, plus better centrally located to my own desires), buy a couple of Humvee's, 4-wheelers, kayaks, and camping equipment. I'd then offer my services (at a small fee of course) to others who'd love to enjoy adventures but don't want to or can't spend the big bucks for the toys!! I'd be more than happy to go anywhere near or far (as commisioned to) in search of mountains to climb, rivers to raft or kayak and terrain to 4-wheel...and of course CACHE!!

I'd love to be able to do this, but merely stopping buying coins wouldn't even give enough money to buy the gas for this endeavor!! One can always dream!!

What would I use my geocin money for if there were no coins......I have just been checking my email and I think it has been trying to tell me something. Across the top of the page are banner ads and for the last several days when I sign in, the ad has been for Pro Plan dog food with pictures of two springers. Each time I see those pics it makes me smile but it is a sad smile. Last year I lost my springer Abbey to an illness that if treated correctly may not have been fatal. I still miss her terribly and if I could I would buy/adopt another springer so that I could have two dogs to feed Pro Plan and of course cache with! But since there are no geocoins they would then have a tb tag on their collar.

This is actually a great idea. We will be traveling to Arizona in August to golf. All the great caches are out in the middle of the desert and require a 4x4 and/or 4 wheeler which is hard to come by for a couple days without doing a tour.

Underwear for my husband! Did you know you can get one coin for one pack of underwear?

Whoa! TMI! I said kid friendly! And yes I did know that, I do all my bills in terms of geocoins... the heating bill usually costs a templar, an earth turtle and a couple of FTF coins...

Hey, Kids think the word underwear is funny!

(Being as this “addiction” is new to me, I’ve opted to go for the most original route or funny …)

It seems the sheer price of geocoins has taken over people’s worlds and lives. After all, these addictive little things are what helps the geocaching World revolve. Buy, activate, trade, sell, purchase, place in caches … it is such an ongoing process.

The money that is invested in these little coins is astounding. What to do with this habit? Keep sinking money in or find a way to spend the money elsewhere. The addiction is becoming increasingly amazing.

So the question has been posed, if you didn’t spend your hard-earned paycheck on these little pieces of geo-crack, what in the world would you spend it on?

GCA.

What, you may ask, is GCA? GeoCoins Anonymous. Yes, geocoinites, there is indeed help for this crazy little addiction. I feel that it is a wise investment and it is something I am primed to do if needed. Though hard to pull yourself from the wacky activity that is geocoins, it’s possible to realize your dreams of spending money elsewhere.

Piles of coins can surround a person. All these numbers that you have to activate and log can be daunting for sure. Then the dollar signs go off in the head. “Oh my! How much money have I spent on these things? I could have bought dog food this week. Or gas for the car. Or new swag to put in a cache! But no, it’s geocoins!”

Aaaargh! I have to have geocoins!

Alas, if this addiction is to end, I know how it has to be. I have to take a step back, take that money and spend it at GCA. I have to let them help me get over this addiction and realize that when all is said and done, I’ll be geocoin free and will have a lot more money in my pocket.

And when I finish this program at GCA, they give you a nice, shiny geocoin to show you have completed the course. It’s trackable, too. Oh no, here we go again…

Well, I've for the most part stopped buying coins, so not sure if this counts. In the beginning I would buy I'd say about 10 or so a month, so that was about $100 a month. (We were both working then). Now I only buy them if they appeal to me for Bella's collection. So that said, all the extra money I would have spent goes into a bank for Bella. It's kinda a special bank, it's a cute little bunny that I got when I was 13 years old. My grandmother brought it back from Maine. Amazingly it has never fallen or broken. Now each month I add coins and bills to it for her, usually I give her the money to put in herself, she loves to! At the end of the month we open it up and empty it into a larger jar, and when that is full we go to the bank and use the coin machine. She loves to do this! We emptied her bunny today in fact, about 10 minutes ago!!!

I could've bought a car with what I've spent on coins. But since I already have a car and don't drive it much I'd probably have bought more motorcycle accessories (no, it's not a Harley so chrome is not my favourite doodad).

Coins have helped me stay relatively sober. I do not spend money on wine, women and song though I'm not sure if that is an appropriate enterprise for someone just inducted into the AARP. Maybe the more relavant purchases would be for Geritol, Viagra and Ensure.

Well, now that I think about it. I could have used all that money spent on geocoins to have a family reunion. It's been sooooo long since we have seen all the cousins, aunts, uncles. It really would be great to get everyone together. The money could pay for air fair.

I had to think long and hard about this. I would install solar panels on the roof and buy a hybrid car. This way when I came back to my senses and realized that I neeeded geocoins then I would have more money to spend on them!
