Tonteldoos

Tusk O'2

Recommended Posts

Yes, everybody can now start to hunt them. The ones I visited were very good and I believe that the average cacher will enjoy all of them. The quality and the locations of the caches are very good. I learned a lot of our history.

The other two remaining ones are also inside injury time and only a couple of minor admin issues remains but will be resolved shortly.

Happy caching!!!

I personally have only found 2 of the Tonteldoos Series caches and both have been exceptionally good caches from a historic and location point of view. I have read all the caches descriptions of the Series and I read the logs with interest as well.

All I can say is a huge THANK YOU to Tusk O'2 for his idea and perseverance to get the Series off the ground. I am sure that this Series is going to grow in the future as it depicts and brings focus to the history of South Africa for all cachers to enjoy.

Happy searching for the TD Series and enjoy the adventure.

Some good news and some bad news. I was playing around with the stats in an effort to determine how many cachers will be able to find the complete tonteldoos series and who will be ready to do the final cache during April 2009.

When I calculated the stats I took certain realistic dates and determined that 72 days has passed and only 231 days remained to find the caches. I then had to use a frame of reference and I assumed that cachers will find only one tonteldoos cache per day. This is not actually true because if you push it you can find the caches in Gauteng and close by in one day.

The following came to light.

If you have 11 clues then you took 7 days to find one clue a day. This person must now find a tonteldoos cache and clue every 33 days in the future. This specific person does have a good rate of find and in all probability he should be able to compete in the final cache. Green light for this cacher.

If you have 9 clues then you took 8 days to find one clue a day. This person must now find a tonteldoos cache and clue every 26 days in the future. This specific person does have a good rate of find and in all probability he should be able to compete in the final cache. Green light for this cacher.

If you have 4 clues then you took 18 days to find one clue a day. This person must now find a tonteldoos cache and clue every 16 days in the future. This specific person does have a good rate of find and in all probability he should be able to compete in the final cache. Green light for this cacher.

If you have 3 clues then you took 24 days to find one clue a day. This person must now find a tonteldoos cache and clue every 15.4 days in the future. This specific person must increase his hunting and must find more than 1 tonteldoos cache per day. But he is still going strong but more effort is needed. Still green light for these cachers.

If you have 2 clues then you took 36 days to find one clue a day. This person must now find a tonteldoos cache and clue every 14.4 days in the future. Effort will be needed and more than 2 tonteldose must be achieved per hunting trip to get back in line. This is a yellow light flickering.

If you have 1 clue then you took 72 days to find one clue a day. This person must now find a tonteldoos cache and clue every 14 days in the future. A lot of effort is needed and a red light is flickering for these cachers.

Summary

At present about 14 people are good to go for the final cache which represents only 20% of the cachers that started hunting these caches. Green light for them.

At present another 15 people are good to go for the final cache which represents 21% of the cachers that started hunting these caches. It is still possible to find all the tonteldoos caches but a yellow light is showing.

I hope this is of some value.

Ok, sounds like someone is enjoying this. It will be no fun to have only 6 or less cachers looking for the final cache. Please do not interpret my stats incorrectly – my aim is not too break your spirit but only to serve as a caution and to highlight the urgency. Time is moving fast and if you are not aware of your finds in relation with time you could be disappointed. I am trying to help and to support and not to kick you in the back. It is easy to turn the numbers into negative feedback. You can do 4 caches in Gauteng on the same day with planning. The next day you can get to the ones in North West. So it easy to accelerate the caches.

Maybe we should start with a lift club for the remote caches. At least we can share the cost and build some friendships along the way. Maybe this will bring back the comrades among the cachers. Every cacher is a unique person – there is none like you and I. We come from different beliefs, education, cultures and influences and we all act different to the same situation. All of us have some negative things and things in the cupboard. Maybe the real value of the tonteldoos series should be to build the spirit among us. Ok, do not throw stones we all live in glass houses. Maybe my house is thinner.

Green light:

(from 11 clues to 3) RedGlobe still flying high. Well done.

Well I've just joined the RED Light gang - by not planning to be in SA when the evnt occurs.

We are relocating to the UAE - so org, concol and I will be thinking of you.

Don't know about org - difficult to get that name wrong - but maybe you need to check on the spelling of CINCOL!! :(:D Anyway, looking forward to doing same caches with you in Abu Dhabi soon. You have quite a lot of the Qatar caches under you belt already so I have some catching up to do if I want to equal the number in the UAE. :D However, there are not that many around Abu Dhabi anyway. :(

I have only one thing to say.... TD caches range from the ultimate cache to an absolute basic can only be there type cache. Sunday I spent 4 hourse finding one amd have just told the owner to up the rating to a 5 star for difficulty. Not only is it a long process to decipher but also the final is not easy to find unless you are in the right place. The co-ords are not even given for the final.... you need to think.....

Then the other extreme was a plain cache with a few seconds needed to find... but the clue is all that was needed.

Will log the find next week when I get back home... but this is one series that can pull out some amazing surprises....

can't wait to find some more....

I am not at home and browsing via my phone... trying in vain to find a listing of all the caches in the TD series. Could someone perhaps list all the TD's in the series including links to the relavant pages for each. Maybe set it as a locked thread. Thanks..... and happy searching....

:wub::wub: The official tonteldoos caches are now ready and the cachers can hunt them all. If you want a challenge please visit Bloedrivier. If you want to climb a little bit visit the one at Amajuba. If you want to mix with the birdies visit Vredesboom. If you want to hunt quality caches and learn something about our past then hunt the rest.

Good luck and thanks to all the cache owners that made this series possible. Yes, I forgot – Fisheagle thanks for your assistance, patience and positive contribution.

 Oh yes, RedGlobe should we try the one at Hanover as a FTF?

Oooo sorry I have to wait for the Diesel price to come down (maybe a drop of R1.60/l next month)

We have 3xFTF’s on this fantastic series and will leave it for the “non financial disabled” cachers out there.

Looks like a lot of cachers have the same problem that we have. It is only Dakardrix which is flying from cache to cache. :) He has to drain fuel from his bike every week just to show some fuel consumption.

I will try Bloedrivier and Amajuba tomorrow. Bloedrivier is the worry. It is not a difficulty 3 but more a 4 or 4.5. Tomorrow when the sun is peeping over the horizon then we will start hunting big time. I will have to find him even if it took me the whole day. But my confidence levels received a serious knock at this one and made me humble again. :)

How are the others' TB doing?

Mine is still in the riginal setting. gerhardoosMPsa thought he took it but realized later that he took the wrong one! Anyway, hopefully the next cacher will pick mine up. There are still a lot of cachers who have yet to visit Rustenburg. Remember that there are 2 TD's in Rustenburg!

Link to comment

Now I understand what went wrong with the struggle on the TD’s. I never had the correct bones with me. Maybe it was punishing me for leaving him alone.

Well I am glad we met and I hope he travels well. If I look at the cache where he is waiting for the next cacher then he should move quickly. There is an event at Nelspruit so the next cacher could give him a ride to the TD near the event. From there he should go very quickly to another location. So it looks like he is on his way.

I hope he is not hijacked to a strange place – the cacher will first move it and then they complete the log just to see that this belongs in a TD.

Gerhard

Link to comment

This TB is waiting patiently to move since 25/5/2008. This is now nearly 4 months. Yes, you are correct but there are two caches that will decide the outcome. One is Bloedrivier and then your one. I have the waypoints for your one – so I must just find him. To get there is the question. But they say that father time will tell.

It is going to be strange if we have no cacher doing the final cache. About 88 cachers have found a TD or more.

Tonteldoos - Hildebrand :anibad:B)

To me this is one of the best logs that I have read with reference to the series. This man must be a bilingual writer. Well written and it does give you a nice feeling.

OK, up to now I did not see any negative logs on these caches. Only positive and more positive but this one is the cherry on the cake. Maybe we should consider a price for the person that capture the moment – something like the best relevant log for the series.

I will be waiting for your logs.

I owe, I owe so it is off to work I go. My boss was quite please to tell me that I can get the 16th, Christmas and New year as a holiday. I think he forgot that he signed my leave form for a week in December – done somewhere in February and I have the copy. As I am the second in command it is my duty to delegate while he is on leave. ;)

I hope we can see some numbers on this series. At present I forecast only two to five guys looking for the final cache. Time is ticking and the next time when I publish the stats then less than 100 days will be left. If the cachers get a couple of muggled caches then they will not make it.

By the way maybe you should find Krugerhof first. I received a warning that this could be located in a muggle area. Time will tell. You do not want to have all except this one. It is not far from Pretoria. I am planning to drop the TB from Ginger in this one next Friday –maybe you can give it a lift to Trapkoppie – I will move it further sometime in February if it is stuck.

Worst of all – Amajuba is the closest to me but I can’t get to it. Every time something is in the way.

Good luck and I hope I see you at the event - you can give me some leads to quality caches in the North West. At present there are too many good ones and I do not know where to start.

Gerhard

Cincol will never forgive me for that slip. :)

Ok, I am planning for a trip to North West so maybe I must killa the bull. I will get the TB moving. If there is time I will escort your TB to some caches just to get some competition for Ginger. The only price you pay is one cup of coffee if you are in South Africa. Maybe I must place him on Majuba. I know Wazat is always keen to log new TB’s maybe he will take it along.

The real test now is the TB from Ginger. We will drop it on Friday and we will only log it on Sunday night. This could be in a muggle area and the other cachers are not moving on this one. The longer it stays in the cache the bigger the risk. I am trying my best to get RedGlobe to hunt this one but he is very quiet. He is ignoring me totally. Too busy packing for the trip and reading the hints.

Maybe we must arrange a surprise for him. Get all the cachers together and wait for him at the first cache. :)

......... Maybe I must place him on Majuba. I know Wazat is always keen to log new TB’s maybe he will take it along.

Yebo Gogo - that will give Wazat something to do for a change! He also needs to exercise going up Majuba as well. Perhaps you should even place a cache in the area for him? He is always complaining about nobody ever giving him caches to hunt near him. :) Wherever you decide to place a cache make sure that it is somewhere that he cannot get to with his 4x4 Corsa. You will need to made it at least a 4 rating so that he will have to use Shank's Pony to get there! :)

Have a caching time.

Link to comment

Cincol,

By the way - I love your 94 cache hides. Qatar is moving along. :P

Gerhard

Thanks - if there are no caches to hunt then you have to hide them for others to find. Hopefully that will inspire others to hide as well. It is a slow process, but others are slowly being hidden. I am starting to concentrate on EarthCaches now as I am getting tired of placing caches under rocks in the desert!! Just more of the same! :D

I do not know when we will move in your area to rescue Gingers TB

Oh dear!! I'd hate for it to not get moved again soon.... and even worse - be muggled!! :)

BTW: Thanks Gerhard for helping it move so well!!! ...and for the effort you put in to get it from the last cache location - eish!!! Did you guys see the shoes??? Ready to go to church I tell you! :D:unsure:

make sure that it is somewhere that he cannot get to with his 4x4 Corsa

What do you mean? Corsas go EVERYWHERE!! :P:lol:
