+MommaLogan Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I am sure that most of you seasoned cachers will laugh at this question...... I just received my first travel bug in the mail. I am eager to go place it in a cache My questions is, when placing a new bug, do most people leave the chain on it? Or do they keep the chain on the COPY one that you hold onto? Yes, I know....silly But I wanted to make sure I am doing everything right. Thanks! Jenn Quote
+Miragee Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Welcome to the Forums! I used a zip-tie to attach the tag and laminated TB info card to my very first TB, and a few of my other TBs. I left the chain on others, although I shortened the chain by a lot. Quote
+Harry Dolphin Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Depends on how you attach the tag to the TB. I think I have one with the tag glued to the bug, and another with a cable tie. But you do need to attach the tag to the bug somehow. You can cut the chain, as necessary, to make it shorter. Quote

+UncleJimbo Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 I use the chain (sometimes shortened) unless my TB is a keyring, in which case I don't use the chain but put the TB dog tag directly on the ring. Cheers Quote
+DaFunkyFrogs Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 (edited) I take the chain off and use a split ring to attach my tag to my bug. These seem more durable than the chain. One of my bugs Edited March 22, 2008 by DaFunkyFrogs Quote
square_peg Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 It's probably best to use something more durable than that chain to secure your tag to your bug. Zip-ties, split rings and keychains are good choices. Quote
+MommaLogan Posted March 22, 2008 Author Posted March 22, 2008 Thanks everyone. I think I will go with a split ring to attach it to something. Now I just have to think of what that something will be Jenn Quote
+BlueDeuce Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Not a silly question at all. Heck, given the chance we'll even talk about the various plastic baggie qualities. (I prefer ziplock freezer) Quote
+Pat in Louisiana Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Speaking of plastic baggies, has anyone heard anything about the small plastic bags like to ones the TB dog tags come in being outlawed in larger cities due to drug trafic use? Quote

(I prefer ziplock freezer) I bought some small ziplock baggies from Staples, but they are very fragile. I would like to know if anyone knows where to purchase strong, extra thick, small plastic ziplock bags. Quote

There was a thread about this about Chicago, but as far as I know, they have not yet been outlawed, and IMHO it is BS that they will be outlawed. Quote

Someone sent me some coins in smaller heavier duty bags that were labeled EZY Dose (for prescription meds). Google can find them for you or maybe your local drugstore. Quote
+joranda Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Back on track. I always cut my chains down so they don't tangle up to easy with out things in the cache. Quote

(I prefer ziplock freezer) How funny :-) When I was planning setting my TB free, I decided that a ziplock freezer bag would hold up the best. And the small baggies..... you can get them at various online stores. I use them in my business and I buy wholesale in bulk. And before you ask....it's not THAT kind of business. Jenn Quote
