Happy Easter dardevle!!!

Here in Greece, we have Easter on 27th of April. I didn't know that you have Easter this week! I learned it Yesterday or a day before! I thought that we (Orthodox in Greece) had only a week after you, Easter! This year....

Thanks GATOULIS. Easter this year is March 23rd. I do not know why though!

Kinda messed with our fishing trip though. Usaully we are up at Lake of The Woods

this weekend but with Easter being early we had to make it for the last weekend

in march. At least the weather should be great for Ice Fishing!

Why is Easter in March this year instead of April?

Did you know the moon decides when Easter is celebrated? Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox, which is March 21.

The reason the moon is used goes back hundreds of years.

“The church brought together what is called a council — a gathering of the church to talk about various issues — and this was one that was discussed in 325 [AD]," explained Father Jim Bracke, C.S.C.

Father Bracke is the chaplain for the Holy Cross sisters at St. Mary's convent. Bracke says based on the beliefs of Christianity, Easter is different from Christmas in that it always needs to be celebrated on the same day of the week.

“They wanted Easter to always be on a Sunday because of its significance with the resurrection, and the belief of the three days after He was crucified with Good Friday," Bracke said.

March 22 is the earliest Easter can happen, April 25 the latest.

Next year Easter will come even later — April 12.

Easter Falls on March 23rd eight times: 1704, 1788, 1845, 1856, 1913, 2008, 2160, and 2228. So this will be the last time we see Easter on March 23rd in our lifetime. During this same time period, it only falls on March 22nd (the earliest it can fall) three times: 1761, 1818, and 2285.

Now ya know

50 Ways to Fill an Easter Egg

You want to give your child a bright and fun Easter basket, but you're afraid of what sugar will do to your little hyperactive one; or you're avoiding colors and preservatives; or your child has diabetes; or you can't take a chance with food allergies; or you just want an excuse to shop in some sensory integration catalogs. Forget the sweets, buy a bunch of colorful plastic eggs, and fill them with a variety of these non-edible treats for a basket of fun your child will still be enjoying long after most kids have gobbled all that bad candy down.

I see the tracks

on the winter snow

where do the start

where do they go

Looks like someone

has three feet

was someone dancing

with the hearbeat

must be the bunny

who lives behind the house

with two young ones

and his spouse

was he just jogging

or looking for food

hope he finds something

something fresh and good

may be I will give

some carrots on his pass

to feed them in the winter

because there is no grass

when the sping comes

I will see the bunny

jumping in our lawn

that would be so funny

There's a story quite funny,

About a toy bunny,

And the wonderful things she can do;

Every bright Easter morning,

Without warning,

She colors eggs, red, green, or blue.

Some she covers with spots,

Some with quaint little dots,

And some with strange mixed colors, too

-- Red and green, blue and yellow,

But each unlike his fellow

Are eggs of every hue.

And it's odd, as folks say,

That on no other day

In all of the whole year through,

Does this wonderful bunny,

So busy and funny,

Color eggs of every hue.

If this story you doubt

She will soon find you out,

And what do you think she will do?

On the next Easter morning

She'll bring you without warning,

Those eggs of every hue.

EASTER PRAYER

Heavenly Father and God of mercy,

I believe that Jesus is alive and has

become the Lord of life.

From the waters of Baptism you have

raised me with him and renewed your

gift of life within me.

Increase in my mind and heart

the risen life I share with Christ

and help me to grow in your

wisdom and grace.

Lord Jesus, you appeared to your

apostles after the resurrection and filled

their hearts with joy when you said to them

"Peace be with you".

May the peace of your presence

abide with me and make each day you

give me the most beautiful day of my life.

Lord Jesus, you triumphed over death and

destroyed the power of death in me,

may I live only for you.

Risen Lord, you brought confusion

on the guards at your tomb but joy

to your disciples, grant me the fullness

of joy as I serve you in spirit and truth.

You promised to be with your disciples,

Lord, to the end of the world, stay with

me today and remain with me always.

King of glory, center of my life,

grant that when you come again, I may

be one with you in glory.

Lord, remember me as in my own way I

minister to your people, may my life

be holy and an example to your people.

Lord Jesus, purify my heart with your truth

and guide me in the way of holiness,

so that I may always do what is

pleasing in your sight.

Amen.

Easter is a Christian Festival that celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. On the third day after Good Friday, the day of his crucifixion, now called Easter Sunday, He rose from the dead. Mourners went to His tomb to collect His body. However, He was not there and they were greeted by an angel who said

"He is Risen".

The cross is a symbol of His crucifixion and Resurrection.

Hot cross buns, a cake or biscuit eaten by many during this season,

are also, symbols of these events.

The lamb is another symbol associated with Jesus.

He is often referred to, in scriptures, as the,

'Lamb of God',

who sacrificed his life for all mankind's eternal life.

Lights, candles and bonfires

mark celebrations in many countries.

Roman Catholics often put the candles in the church out on

Good Friday and light them again with the Pascal Candle

or Easter Candle, on Easter Day.

Eggs are a symbol of the new life that returns

to nature at Easter Time. The custom of exchanging eggs

began long before Easter was celebrated.

It was a custom of the Egyptians and the Persians.

They exchanged eggs decorated in Spring colors.

They believed Earth hatched from an egg

which contributed to this custom.

Early Christians used red colored eggs

to symbolize the Resurrection.

In England they began writing messages

and dates on their eggs and exchanging them

with friends and loved ones.

In the 1800's, candied eggs were made.

They were open on one end and a scene was put inside.

They were used as table centerpieces.

Rabbits symbolized new life and rebirth

in ancient Egypt.

They considered it a symbol of the moon

as the moon determines the date of Easter.

The Easter Bunny's visit is based upon a German Legend.

The legend goes that a poor woman decorated eggs

for her children to find during a famine.

At the moment they found them,

they looked up to see a big bunny hopping away.

Easter Facts

The first Easter baskets were made to look like bird's nests.

The traditional act of painting eggs is called Pysanka.

The custom of giving eggs at Easter time has been traced back to Egyptians, Persians, Gauls, Greeks and Romans, to whom the egg was a symbol of life.

In medieval times a festival of egg-throwing was held in church, during which the priest would throw a hard-boiled egg to one of the choir boys. It was then tossed from one choir boy to the next and whoever held the egg when the clock struck 12 was the winner and retained the egg.

Easter is now celebrated (in the words of the Book of Common Prayer) on the first Sunday after the full moon which happens on or after March 21, the Spring Equinox.

Easter Bonnets are a throw back to the days when the people denied themselves the pleasure of wearing fine angels for the duration of Lent.

Some Churches still keep up the old tradition of using evergreens - symbolic of eternal life - embroidered in red on white, or woven in straw, but most now prefer displays of flowers in the spring colours of green, yellow and white.

Americans celebrate Easter with a large Easter egg hunt on the White House Lawn.

Every year at Easter Pope John Paul sends his " Urbi et Orbi " to the world.

The date of Passover is variable as it is dependent on the phases of the moon, and thus Easter is also a movable feast.

Easter Name

The name Easter comes from Eostre, an ancient Anglo-Saxon goddess, originally of the dawn. In pagan times an annual spring festival was held in her honor. Some Easter customs have come from this and other pre-Christian spring festivals. Others come from the Passover feast of the Jews, observed in memory of their deliverance from Egypt. The word paschal comes from a Latin word that means belonging to Passover or to Easter. Formerly, Easter and the Passover were closely associated. The resurrection of Jesus took place during the Passover. Christians of the Eastern church initially celebrated both holidays together. But the Passover can fall on any day of the week, and Christians of the Western church preferred to celebrate Easter on Sunday the day of the resurrection.

Chocolate Eggs

1 large egg

1 needle

100g plain or milk chocolate

1 egg cup

1 small jug

sugar flowers or white icing

Use the needle to make a fairly big hole in the to of the egg. Shake out the yolk and white into a bowl to cook later.

Melt the chocolate in a small pan set in a larger pan of boiling water. Pour the melted chocolate into the jug.

When the emptied egg has dried out, support it in an egg cup and pour the melted chocolate through the hole.

Leave the egg in a cool place to harden, then break open the shell.

You can decorate the chocolate egg with sugar lowers stuck on with more melted chocolate, or with swirls of white icing squeezed through an icing nozzle.

The most famous decorated Easter eggs were those made by the well-known goldsmith, Peter Carl Faberge. In 1883 the Russian Czar, Alexander, commissioned Faberge to make a special Easter gift for his wife, the Empress Marie.

The first Faberge egg was an egg within an egg. It had an outside shell of platinum and enameled white which opened to reveal a smaller gold egg. The smaller egg, in turn, opened to display a golden chicken and a jeweled replica of the Imperial crown.

This special Faberge egg so delighted the Czarina that the Czar promptly ordered the Faberge firm to design further eggs to be delivered every Easter. In later years Nicholas II, Alexander's son, continued the custom. Fifty-seven eggs were made in all.

Ma'amoul

300g flour

150g butter

2 tablespoons of milk

a few drops of rose water, or more milk

300g stoneless dates

crushed nuts

sugar and cinnamon

icing sugar

Make the pastry by rubbing the flour and butter together in a big bowl, and then add the milk and rose water to make a soft dough.

Chop up the dates and put them in a pan with six tablespoons of water over a low heat until they go soft and squishy.

Roll a small lump of pastry into a ball, then press your thumb in it to make a little pot. Repeat this until you have several little pots.

Fill some pots with the date mixture and the others with the crushed nuts mixed with sugar and cinnamon. For each pot, press the edges of the pastry together.

Put all the filled pots on a baking tray and cook them for about 25 minutes at 180oC or 350oF but do not let them turn brown. When they are cool, roll them in icing sugar.

An ostrich egg, at 3.3 pounds is the largest single cell that exists today on our planet. It's also the largest egg, and it looks about the size of a medium cantaloupe. (Some of the dinosaurs had larger eggs. There's a dinosaur egg in the American Museum of Natural History in New York that's about the size of basketball.)

For comparison, the smallest bird egg is the bee hummingbird. You could put 4700 bee hummingbird eggs inside one ostrich egg. The bee hummingbird egg is the size of a small pea and weighs .02 ounces.

Carving an ostrich egg is difficult and wears out the drills rapidly. An ostrich egg shell has to be tough enough for a 300 pound bird to sit on it. I've seen pictures of an adult in South Africa standing on an unhatched egg.

The ostrich hen will typically lay 10 eggs, but some productive hens will lay more. The hens will often lay their eggs in the same nest as other hens, with the result that you can find as many as 50 eggs in single a nest.

Ostriches are native to South Africa, but you can find them everywhere from Texas to Beijing. Farmers grow them for their hides, feathers, meat, eggs, and other byproducts. They're the world's largest living bird.

By the way, would you ever have guessed that it was the automobile that saved ostriches from going extinct in the wild? Back at the time of the American Revolution, a French Queen, Marie Antoinette made a casual gesture that consigned thousands of species of beautiful birds to extinction. She took a feather from a decorative stand and placed it in her coiffeur. Instantly wearing feathers became a fashion rage. Ladies throughout the world vied for the most elaborate feathers they could find for their hairdos and hats.

In your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it,

You'll be the grandest lady in the Easter Parade.

I'll be all in clover and when they look you over,

I'll be the proudest fellow in the Easter Parade.

On the avenue, Fifth Avenue, the photographers will snap us,

And you'll find that you're in the rotogravure.

Oh, I could write a sonnet about your Easter bonnet,

And of the girl I'm taking to the Easter Parade.

Easter Egg Doll

Easter egg doll is a very simple Easter craft that is enjoyed by kids. Here are the steps as to how to make Easter egg doll…

Material Required:

Blown out egg shell

Paint for facial features;

Paper muffin cups (pastel colors);

1/4" wide ribbon (or yarn);

Toilet tissue roll center cardboard tube;

Tape or glue

Scissors.

Steps Of Making:

Take the blown out eggshell and paint the face of the doll on it.

Half fold the paper muffin cup, so as to make the Easter bonnet for the doll.

To tie the bonnet properly on the Easter egg face, use ribbon and put it in the fold of the muffin cup. Also you can use glue or tape to attach the ribbon or yarn, to set the bonnet in its right position.

To make the body, take about 4 to 5 muffin cups and cut their centers.

Take the cardboard tube and using glue, place the cups upside down on it. For making the tiered skirt of the doll, let the muffin cups overlap the last.

Paste the doll egg face on the topside of the cardboard tube and the beautiful Easter egg doll is ready to adorn your bedroom.
