+~Mark~
I am quoting this from another post, it sure sounds logical to me. I am not sure how hard it would be to impalement something like this, but it is worth taking a look. I've always thought it would be interesting if another number was added to the bottom of the tracakble page showing the total number of miles you have moved all the trackables you have found. (Excluding the miles you have moved your own trackables.) Don't know if this would change how trackables are handled or not, but would probably make those TB owners that want to see movement a little happier. Link to comment
+mtn-man
I see this as an abusable thing. People move TBugs "virtually" now as it is (never have understood this in the least and I am glad they now get locked). You would see a trend in moving them from one side of the world to another, just for distance so it would look good on your profile. Link to comment

You would see a trend in moving them from one side of the world to another, just for distance so it would look good on your profile. What is the criteria used for locking a TB listing? I have personally taken a handful of TBs (none that I owned) from one side of the world (and from one hemisphere to the other) and back and logged them in and out of caches I visited. I visited the cache, took photos, then returned to the US and sent them on their way. How do you determine if a TB has been logged virtually (assuming it's not logged into a virtual cache)? One of the possibilities, and something that I suggested on the web site forum would be the creation of a "tbx" format. You (the general you) are probably somewhat familiar with the .gpx format (GPS Exchange format) which is basically an XML format which describes geocaches and there are lots of Groundspeak extensions to the format (it does, for example, have a travelbug element for identifying trackable items in a cache). There isn't however, to my knowledge, a publicly available format for representing trackable items. If there was, it could facilitate bookmarking TBs, searchable goals, and TB specific pocket queries (show me the closest TBs from my home coordinates) to produce a downloadable ".tbx" file which could be consumed in the same way that applications like EasyGPS/ExpertGPS or GSAK do to manage waypoints. From such a format one could calculate distances which specific geocachers have move trackable items, produce some multiple TB google map mashups, and develop some cool TB race management sites. Just because a total mileage for a TB can be calculated doesn't mean it has to be displayed in the gecaching.com profile. Link to comment
+mtn-man
It is usually pretty easy to spot a "virtual" one. They are usually not doing what you do (posting pics and don't have cache finds to correspond to the drops, etc.). Most of the time the logging number is posted on the page. Interesting post and ideas. Link to comment
+BlueDeuce
What is the criteria used for locking a TB listing? Logging it through caches you or the bug never visited. Sharing tracking numbers with people who never found the bug is another. Pretty much bogus logging. I am quoting this from another post, it sure sounds logical to me. I just have a longer list of upgrades I'd like to see first. Link to comment
