motojeff Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 I am a NuuuBeee to Geocaching, but fairly familiar with GPS units in general. I recently purchased a Garmin GPSMAP 60Csx and was wondering; what are the tried, tested, and preferred accessories to get for this unit to fulfill my Geocaching equipment list? The unit comes with the computer interface usb cable. I have ordered City Navigator NT v8 on disk and a 2G micro SD card. I am going out tomorrow to look for screen protectors and a power cord for the car. Anything else needed? Thanks. Jeff Quote
Fluxuated Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 Sounds like you'd got the MUST HAVE items, The only thing extra I'd get right now is some TOPO. Get that and your GPS Geocaching is complete. City Navigator is great for incar navigation, but you can't beat TOPO when out on the trail. Happy Geocaching. Quote
+sebeck1 Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 I have found that the windshield mount and the car charger were must have items for me. Also I have a heavy duty canvas carry case by garmin that is felt lined on the inside. Quote
+Raffaz Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 Ive got a garmin carrycase and a bike mount, also waiting for a screen protector from here http://www.invisibleshield.com/gps/garmin/gpsmap-60-csx.php Quote
+Paul_Aris Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 Topo map for sure. The new 2008 Topo by mapsource looks good. The nice thing about topos are all the 2 tracks and seasonal roads typically show up. Ram mounts are nice to have as well. Quote
motojeff Posted March 9, 2008 Author Posted March 9, 2008 This is excellent input and will be very useful. I don't like reinventing the wheel and really appreciate everyones comments on must have items. I have another question about the Topo map. I have never used a topo map from Garmin and was wondering if the Topo map interacts with the City Navigator or do you just switch back and forth between maps as necessary? Or do you keep sepearate maps on separate SD cards? Please forgive my ignorance. I will not get my 60csx until tuesday (ups). Thanks. Quote
+Styk Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 Neck lanyard. Don't leave your car with out one. Search the forums and you will find stories from ppl who put their gps's down to deal with the cache and walked away without them. Quote
Amuzme42 Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 Download the xImage (free) from Garmin to create your own waypoints. Also captures screen shots from the Csx. I download clipart from Microsoft and then use Microsoft Dital Image for sizing 16X16 pixels, then I have my own personal/specific waypoints. Quote

I have Both TOPO and City Navigator on my unit, and can easily switch back and forth. Depending on the size of the memory card you have, will dictate how much map Data you can store on board. If you have a Large card, you can store the entire country. Micro SD Cards seem to go on sale quite a bit, I just bought a 2 pack of 2GB Cards, as my phone/ppc use that type of card as well, and got it cheap. Good luck! Quote
