unpublished cache with a watcher

Hello,

A friend of mine has cache which is not yet published. But the strange thing is that there is already someone who is having it on his watch list. How is this possible?? Actually this ain't fair to all the rest of the community who has to wait until the cache comes live...

Thanks for your thoughts.

Regards,

Hans

When a gc.com user attempts to access an unpublished cache they get a page with absolutely no options to watch the cache.

That being said, there may be a work around that I'm not aware. But that would likely require the visitor to know the GC number of the cache page. Which isn't likely.

I'm thinking that the cache owner's reviewer is watching this cache. They have a proximity checker available to them that shows unpublished caches.

Has this cache been created for a while now but unpublished?

The cache is currently in development for I think one week...

As far as I know there has been a conversation with at reviewer.

But I was thinking when you create a cache you see a tick box which needs to be activated if you want the reviewer to see the cache. If not ticked, it is not presented to the reviewer for approval.

That's why I think it is strange, no?

Hans

Since the cache did have reviewer involvment this may be how they track caches that they need to track that were not approved right away. It would not suprise me to learn that reviewers can watch a cache before it's published just like they can see them. The difference between published and unpublished is probably nothing more than a flag.

You can add any cache to your watchlist through the following URL, just change the part after the w= to the cache number (not the GC ID):

http://www.geocaching.com/my/watchlist.aspx?w=00000

Of course, you have to know the number. Put in a random 5-6 digit number, and you'll end up adding a random cache to your watchlist. I don't think it works on unpublished caches for us mere mortals, though. I haven't tried it on an unpublished cache but I believe it just returns an error.

Here in New Zealand I would expect to have one watcher on all my caches, as our two local reviewers watch almost all the caches they have had anything to do with. It is very rare for a cache in New Zealand to have no watchers.

I expect your friend will find that the watcher is his/her local reviewer.

Got an error message trying this technique.

Hans, why not ask your friend to ask his reviewer if he is the one watching the cache?

When I'm reviewing a cache and working on something with the cache owner, I put it on my watchlist so I see the reviewer notes they leave. After publishing the cache I take it off.
