jholly Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Yahoo maps have the county lines on the maps. Nice if your doing county challenges. Is there any way to get google maps to show county lines? TIA, Jim Quote
+nekom Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Google Earth will show county lines if the borders layer is checked. I don't think you can get the same features with the web based google maps. Quote
+palmetto Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 You can enable boundaries on Google Earth, which will give you county boundaries. Google maps on the cache page, I don't think you can. If you're a GSAK user, there's a macro found on the GSAK forums macro library, County.gsk. It names the county for any cache - with some occasional accuracy problems along the coasts and large lakes, where it fails to extend county boundaries over water. Quote
+Beaverbeliever Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Not on Google Maps, but you can download Google Earth for free at www.earth.google.com. I love google earth, it is the BEST! Quote
jholly Posted February 23, 2008 Author Posted February 23, 2008 Thanks all. I asked about google maps because that is what the caches are displayed on. In doing county challenges I would be nice to know which county the cache is in before clicking download GPX. The GSAK county macro is after the fact. Thanks! Jim Quote

Jim You can display them on Goggle Earth also. And then go to the webpage that is linked to the Waypoint to download the data.... Just Download Geocache browser for Google Earth from your account page. Edited February 24, 2008 by coggins Quote
+Sioneva Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 I wish there was a Delorme overlay for Google Earth... Quote

Jim I used Google Earth to find caches in all CA's 58 counties. Just export the .gpx from GSAK to Google Earth (there are even 1-button macros out there to help automate this). MrW. Quote
+iH8vols Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 A little late to the party, but I was looking for the same thing and found this. Maybe it will help others. http://www.gelib.com/us-counties.htm Quote

Wow I am so surprised when I saw this. While Cali as big as it is has 58 counties. Alabama has 67. I guess cali counties might be just a tad bigger. This probably makes it hard for most counties in a day challenge in California. Quote
+NanCycle Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 (edited) Try this: http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/map_input?form=google One of the map types in the parameters has county lines. Edit: Oops-I didn't notice that this was an O-L-D thread. Edited August 31, 2011 by DoubleBent Quote
