+fairyhoney
SO, will there be room in someone, who's doing the full route, for 2 people? WE were hoping that someone would have the room since this will be our first and would like the guidance of an experienced Cache Machiner Fairyhoney Edited March 19, 2008 by fairyhoney Quote Link to comment
+woodman5898
Thanks for the info. I'll try to post draft 3 on Tuesday night, March 18. After that, I'll be posting the final on Monday, March 24, and then I'll announce any last minute changes at dinner on Friday, March 28. After digging through my latest pocket query, and ignoring all the new micros in Ellensburg, I'm not seeing a need to post a third draft. Only a few changes: Removed from main route: GCKC9E Nowhere to be seen! (too far to hike) GC9467 COPYCAT #3 (too far to hike) Removed from micro route: GCZ7MG Journey To The Park # 1-Gardner Park (disabled)Added to main route: GC19YXX Truckin' Isn't Easy GC19RZ5 The Leap Year Cache (small, but not micro) I'd never removed First Choice cache off the route, so no change there. I'll post the final route on the evening of March 24. Where in the order did you put the two new caches? (GC19YXX & GC19RZ5) Edited March 19, 2008 by woodman5898 Quote Link to comment
+SprocketMan
dsvaughn and I commissioned Travis last night as soon as he posted his availability. We did the Spokane CM together, and it will be fun to do another one. Yup. Thanks for the offer, though, dsflye. Glad you found a ride so quick, should have known the event lister would be in high demand! Not having lived in the eastern half of WA, are there any problems with ice/snow this time of year? From looking at the weather forecast, the lows look to be below freezing with a chance of snow before the event....am I going to have issues coming over White Pass on hwy 12 in the middle of the night? dsflye, I'm flying solo at this point and would be interested in partnering up with another cacher. I'm planning on getting in to Yakima the night before so I should be at the starting line in the morning. Yakima's up the road from my residence in the Tri-Cities and have done cache runs through the area on a pretty regular basis so I can find my way around town without too much trouble. If you want my cell number so we can connect, email me from geocaching.com SprocketMan Quote Link to comment

I won't guarantee it, but I'm not anticipating any problems. Road conditions at this moment, according to the WSDOT, are bare and wet; snowing, but no tire restrictions. You mentioned you're flying out of PDX. If you're concerned about weather, you might find it better to take I-84 east, then US-97 north into Yakima. I'd just check the pass reports the night before to be sure. Just to mention US-97 is closed at the bridge into Washington. They're still working on the bridge. Cross at The Dalles (free), or Hood River (toll), and follow 14 to US 97 on Washington side. Quote Link to comment

+travisl
Where in the order did you put the two new caches? (GC19YXX & GC19RZ5) GC19YXX is the new stop #10. This bumps everything after forward a little. GC19RZ5 necessitated a re-route. So until I change everything again with my final route on Monday: Stop 11: GC1897G Light at the End of the Tunnel (Other 1.5/1.5) Stop 12: GCGFQW Emergency Emergency.... (Regular 2/1) Stop 13: GCDB60 Rocket Power (Micro 1/1) Stop 14: GCVMBG JOHNNYS BRIDGE (Regular 1/1.5) Stop 15: GC19H01 Peanut Butter Revisited Stop 16: GC19RZ5 The Leap Year Cache (Small 3/1) Stop 17: GC18977 Wildcat Woods (Other 2/2) Stop 18: GC16N9Z Zen Mistletoe II (Not chosen 2/1.5) Stop 19: GCDB5E Monkey Business (Micro 1/1) The deletion of the other two stops also changed numbering later: Stop 38: GC13GVB The Farm - TB Bunkhouse2 (Regular 1/1) Stop 39: Parking for GC176EY Beginning of Myron Lake (Micro 1.5/1.5) Stop 40: GC17VB4 I Wish I Could Find It... (Regular 1/1.5) Stop 41: GCK01J Red Vines Reborn (Regular 2.5/1) As I implied, though, there's a good chance that this will change in Monday's final posting, so I wouldn't spend a lot of time getting your GPSes loaded up and your custom maps designed yet. +travisl
can you add Harlen Landing 2 you can get to it from the same parking as a river runs under it. Yup, I'll add it. I'll need to do some re-routing in the area anyway -- I was approaching River Runs Under from the wrong side. I also saw a bizarre U-turn nearby, later in the route, and I think I'm going to resolve that by adding another cache in Selah. Stay tuned. By the way, not only is Caliber going to be offering us hot dogs in the canyon, but he's also talked to the Yakima Visitors Center, near the starting point, and will be offering us coffee and bagels from 6:00-7:00. Also, ALERT: Start time change: I've changed the start time from 6:30 to 6:15 on Saturday morning. I realized I'd looked at the sunrise calculations for the wrong weekend. That's like being able to get three more caches! Wakey wakey! Oh, and if anyone's keeping score, I've just e-mailed the Ellensburg Police Department to warn them of our arrival. Caliber's already been in touch with the Yakima PD. I don't think there's enough caches in Selah to warrant warning their department. Edited March 24, 2008 by travisl Quote Link to comment

I added several small (not micro) caches to the main route, particularly in Ellensburg. A few of the caches have a few recent DNFs, and they're marked with a frownie face, which looks kinda like this: There's also been some re-routes. +Harpo Marx
Hey Portlanders- I've never driven to Yakima before. Which is the best route? Up 5 then east to Yakima or east on 84 then north? Also, my co-cacher had to cancel so I'm flying solo. If anybody needs a geo-navigator or miscellaneous tagger-along please let me know. I can drive the route but my car's missing some important bits including the passenger side door handle so it's not the best option. Quote Link to comment

Definitely don't go up 5 unless you want a slower scenic route along Highway 12 to Yakima. Fastest way would be to take 84 but cross over to Washington 14 before Biggs because that bridge is closed. Mapsource says 84 to 14 to 97 is 3:34 hrs. I-5 to 12 is 4:44 hrs. Remember that people are reporting here that the bridge across the Columbia at Biggs is closed. Quote Link to comment
+travisl
Note to self (and others who might not make it to dinner Friday) so I don't forget: Adding GC1AJ26 Get-A-Round-To-It as stop #60.5. As a result, I might re-route this, 61, and 62. Not adding GC1AHHP Renegade Overlook & Historic Rest (too far off route). Quote Link to comment
+Harriet the Spy
I was wondering if you could add the eddy's buffet, Old Country buffet, and the hot dog pit stop cords as child waypoints on the event page so I can download them all at once. I am the most forgetful of the crew, and as information specialist if I don't know the info of where we are suppose to be I am going I get into heaps of trouble (those gals are pretty cutthroat) Quote Link to comment
+Allanon
Harriet, the Old Country coords are the CM coords. As for the other two (plus the bagel stop in the morning), I've got them available (added them to GSAK as separate points from the coords) and can send them to whomever wants them if Travis doesn't get time to add them as child waypoints. +travisl
I've added four waypoints: Eddy's, morning coffee/bagel, hot dog, and OCB. I listed the event dinner as a waypoint, even though it's the same as the event coordinates. The dinner coordinates are an eyeballed guess anyway, 'cause I can only see the mall on a map, and the mall's web site isn't kind enough to actually have a map of the restaurant's location in the mall.
